The Department of English and Modern Languages in the College of Liberal Arts is accepting applications for its Assistant Professor of Spanish and Sociolinguistics (Tenure Track) position. The candidate will maintain a strong research agenda with an open field of concentration in Sociolinguistics or Second Language Acquisition. Preferably, the candidate will have interests in curriculum design and teaching Spanish language and sociolinguistics courses at the undergraduate and graduate level.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Education

Must possess a Ph.D. in Spanish or Hispanic Studies with a focus in Sociolinguistics or Second Language Acquisition by date of appointment.

Minimum Required Experience

Must have at least three (3) years of college or university instruction in Spanish.

Minimum Required Licenses and/or Certifications

None required.

Qualifications

• Must have native or near-native language proficiency in Spanish and English.

• Training and teaching experience in global languages and culture is preferred.

Skills and Abilities

Must have proven effectiveness in teaching and advising.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Teaching undergraduate language, linguistics, cultural and special topics courses in Spanish as assigned.

• Teaching graduate level linguistics courses in Spanish or English.

• Maintain an active research agenda.

• Serving as an academic advisor for majors in the department.

• Serving on departmental, college and university committees.

• Maintaining an active professional development agenda.

• Working cooperatively with the Coordinator of Foreign Languages and faculty.

• Accepting direction from assigned peer evaluators in developing and implementing syllabi, teaching methods, assignments and grading standards to achieve program-wide student learning outcomes.

• Attending face-to-face general department and specific program meetings.

• Performing other essential duties by required deadlines relevant to instructor teaching assignments, as assigned.
