The Department of Communication, Criminal Justice, and Sociology at Carroll University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Criminal Justice at the Assistant Professor rank, beginning Fall 2024. This tenure track position is teaching-oriented (80% teaching / 20% service).

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Criminology or related field. ABD acceptable if degree in hand is expected by December 2024.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a documented record of excellence in teaching, a passion for teaching first-year students, and the ability to engage under-represented students in the study of criminal justice.

Responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate will be a broadly trained criminologist with expertise in victims and violence. A psychology-focus is preferred.

  • Primary teaching responsibilities will include Introduction to Criminal Justice, Introduction to Sociology, Race and Ethnicity, Juvenile Delinquency, Culture and Crime, Understanding Violence, Victims and Victimology, and the freshman seminar in the University's general education curriculum. Some of these courses are taught annually, some are offered every other year. Those with research expertise may also choose to teach capstone every other year. The successful candidate may choose to develop and teach a course in their area of expertise starting in their second year.

  • Additional responsibilities may include advising, curriculum development, course coordination, and other service to the Criminal Justice program and the University.

Rank and Salary:

  • Assistant Professor (80% teaching / 20% service). This is a 4/4 teaching load.

  • This position is eligible for tenure.

  • Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.

The Department:

  • The Criminal Justice Program is housed within the Department of Communication, Criminal Justice, and Sociology in the College of Arts and Sciences.

  • The program supports approximately 80 undergraduate majors.

  • Faculty in the department and innovative teachers. They also actively partner with students for research and present at conferences, lead study abroad programs, and coordinate internships.

  • The Pioneer Core general education curriculum has a strong emphasis on developing intercultural awareness.

  • Carroll offers graduate programs in several Health Science fields as well as in Business, Software Engineering, and Education.

  • Carroll University is in suburban Waukesha, 16 miles west of Milwaukee and 60 miles east of Madison.

  • The University serves approximately 3000 full-time and 500 part-time students.
