Position Summary:

We seek an energetic and enthusiastic individual who loves teaching and shares our dedication to excellent student-centered undergraduate teaching. The successful applicant will join a diverse close-knit department that offers bachelor's degrees in psychology, psychology with an emphasis in clinical and a joint sports psychology program with our Kinesiology department. Although our department members are research active, Adams State University is an institution primarily focused on teaching excellence, and the teaching load is 12 credit-hours each semester.

Mission -The School for Humanities and Social Sciences meets students where they are, through equitable and inclusive education, and guides them in their exploration and analysis of the complexities of diverse cultures and societies to understand the past, lead in the present, and prepare for the future. We teach critical thinking through engagement in research, co-curricular activities, scholarship, and interpretation so students gain knowledge and understanding of what it means to be human in a changing social-political world.

Minimum Qualifications

1.ABD or PhD in Psychology by the time the position starts.

2.A strong focus on teaching.

3.Demonstrates knowledge of, sensitivity to, and ability to work effectively with the educational needs of individuals and groups with a diverse range of identities, cultures, backgrounds, and abilities in a global environment.

4.Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity of Adams State University's student population, including students with different abilities (e.g., physical and or learning) as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded, inclusive practices within the classroom; ability or potential to foster inclusive learning environments.

5.Demonstrated commitment to honesty, efficacy, and collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

1.Ability or experience working with historically under-served and/or underrepresented populations, and first-generation college students.

2.Ability or experience teaching psychology courses at the undergraduate level. While we are interested in generalists, teaching responsibilities will likely encompass the following courses: Introduction to Psychology, Social Psychology, Multicultural Psychology, Psychology of Gender, Research Methods and Psychological Statistics with the ability to teach special topics in one's research area.

3.Evidence of valuing equity, treating cultural and linguistic diversity as assets, and sensitivity to and understanding of diverse students.

4.Ability or experience in the recruitment and/or retention of underrepresented students, including students of color.

5.Commitment to professional development, scholarship and service to the university, students, and community.

6.Demonstrated self-awareness of one's own cultural beliefs, perspectives, and privileges as a part of one's orientation towards teaching and leadership.

7.Demonstrated decision-making that is informed by research, data, and theory and that leverages students' unique cultures, experiences, and background as strengths.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for the position is $48,000-$51,000 commensurate with experience and education.
