Assistant Professor of Sculpture. Probationary appointment leading to a tenure decision.
Service and committee work expected. The successful candidate will be expected to run a lab-based curriculum in Sculpture that currently has a strong emphasis on wood and metal fabrication processes. The successful candidate will complement, enhance, and expand our sculpture curriculum and offer our students new possibilities for material/spatial practice in a cross-disciplinary studio program.
This position requires an individual who has the vision and expertise to contribute to a dynamic sculpture program that trains students in contemporary sculptural processes and techniques, material sensitivity and mastery, and formal and conceptual analysis. The position will require advanced teaching and communication skills, as well as a broad range of technical ability relating to lab practice and safety. The qualifications include the ability to provide mentorship to graduate students in sculpture and across disciplines as well as a strong record of personal creative activity.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: M.F.A. in Studio Art with emphasis in Sculpture or related field.
Active exhibition record and new creative work in Sculpture within the last three years. One year university-level teaching experience as instructor of record.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Expertise in sculptural practices and skill in metal and wood fabrication techniques.
Technical ability in 3D digital production. Ability to teach sculptural theory and practice. Ability to provide leadership to graduate students in sculpture and across disciplines.
Knowledge of current safety and health standards. Excellent communication skills. A demonstrated commitment to
diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
