JOB SUMMARY:

The Department of Religion, Ethics, and Philosophy at Greensboro College invites applications for an assistant professorship to begin in August 2024 in the area of biblical studies (Hebrew Bible or New Testament).

The successful candidate will teach a 4/3 load, including introductory and advanced undergraduate courses, as well as create modules for the online MA in Theology, Ethics, and Culture program. These may include but are not limited to: Introduction to Hebrew Bible, Introduction to the New Testament, a wide range of introductory and elective courses in biblical studies, ethics, and philosophy. The successful candidate may teach courses in ancient history (ancient Near Eastern history, Roman Late Antiquity, or others), in collaboration with the History department, and/or great text course(s) in the George Center for Honors Studies. Some service for the department and/or college is also expected, especially after the first year of teaching.

The Department of Religion, Ethics & Philosophy provides students with the tools to establish their basic perspectives on life as well as the moral compass to navigate it. Through a rigorous curriculum, students gain a deeper understanding of the world around them and learn in an environment that nurtures faith, respects difference, and encourages growth. By encountering the great thinkers and doers of history, our Religion, Ethics and Philosophy students develop unmatched problem-solving and communication skills, which are essential for any job down the road, including a possible life of ministry.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Hebrew Bible, New Testament, or related fields;

  • Strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, including an appreciation of or engagement in high-impact teaching practices;

  • The ability to create a sense of inclusion and belonging in the classroom, and to infuse multicultural content into course material as appropriate;

  • Ability to contribute to the educational mission of Greensboro College.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience and demonstrated success in teaching undergraduate students;

  • Evidence of an agenda for scholarship and promise of publication, or sustained publication (depending on rank), in the area of expertise.
