Position Title Assistant Professor of Practice/Curriculum Coordinator, Biology Unit College of Arts & Sciences Job Location Remote/Hybrid Option Description of Work
Doane University, a liberal arts university with campuses in Crete and Lincoln, and an Omaha Location, has an opening for an individual with expertise in online teaching in biology or a related field for a full-time, 12-month/year, two-year renewable Assistant Professor of Practice position to coordinate the review and redevelopment of Doane's online biology curriculum. This person will work with other department faculty to oversee the outcomes, content, and structure of courses; assist with hiring, mentoring, and evaluation of adjuncts; and teach courses within their expertise as needed. This position reports to the Biology Department chair and the Director of Extended Learning Opportunities. Remote applicants will be considered.
The Doane Biology faculty collaborates extensively to implement student-centered and evidence-based teaching practices. The department participates in the Partnership for Undergraduate Life Sciences Education (PULSE) programs and other leading national programs in the field of STEM education. Doane's Extended Learning Opportunities department uses the Quality Matters framework to deliver high-quality, accessible online courses. Primary/Essential Duties:
Lead a cross-functional team with a collaborative approach to ensure timely, organized development and delivery of high-quality online biology courses that meet the needs of the University and enrolled and prospective students
Manage multiple course and curriculum development projects with minimal supervision
Familiar with online development frameworks and pedagogical best practices to guarantee the quality and design of departmental courses
Engage professional development related to online STEM courses and programs and disseminate best practices to the department faculty
Participate in departmental activities as appropriate, including curriculum development and program assessment
Serve as a liaison between the Biology Department and the Extended Learning Opportunities unit

Minimum Required Qualifications
Master's level degree in Biology or a Biology-related field
Teaching experience in Biology
Significant experience with online instruction, including Course Management Systems; experience with top-down instructional design
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching in a higher education setting
Experience with curriculum development and assessment
Experience supervising, mentoring, and evaluating personnel, preferably in educational settings
