Rivier University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Practice in Biology. Reporting to the Dean of Arts and Sciences and collaborating with the Dean of Nursing and Health Professions, the Assistant Professor of Practice in Biology is responsible for providing instruction in Medical Microbiology to nursing students. This is a nine month, full-time, exempt level, benefit-eligible renewable non-tenure track faculty position.
The Assistant Professor of Practice is responsible for providing the instruction of medical microbiology in both theory and in the laboratory.
Develop and maintain expertise in the biological/microbiological sciences discipline and integrate this learning into the curriculum and classroom.
Participate on an ongoing basis in the assessment and analysis of student learning.
The successful candidate must possess a minimum of a master's degree in biology or related discipline or a master's degree in a related discipline with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology or related degree with a specialization in medical microbiology.
Candidates must possess a keen interest and enthusiasm for teaching and mentoring students as well as the ability to work effectively with students of all levels and abilities.
Candidates should have a demonstrable understanding of how this discipline and this position support the education of undergraduate nursing students.
Also important is the ability to collaborate with colleagues both in the nursing and science departments and throughout the University community.
Desire to mentor undergraduate students in their course work and career goals.
Ability to engage in critical thinking and exercise independent judgment.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage confidential information.
Ability to collaborate with other faculty, staff, and maintain collegial relations.
Initiative-taker, ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form.
Computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, on-line teaching and reporting platforms.
