Position Title Assistant Professor of Microbiology Position Number 896476 School/Division Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences-Natural Science Department Full-Time or Part-Time Full-Time Description

The Department of Biology at Hofstra University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, assistant professor position in Microbiology for Fall 2024. The successful candidate must have a PhD, post-doctoral experience in microbiology or a closely-related discipline, a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education, and experience in teaching, with the ability to teach lecture and lab courses in general biology, microbiology, and upper-level courses that complement current course offerings. In addition, the successful candidates are expected to establish and maintain an externally funded research program that complements the needs of our department and is accessible to both undergraduate and master's research students. We will be hiring a microbiologist using any bacterial model system, with preference given to applicants who use a combination of molecular tools and classic microbiology in their research. Qualifications

  • PhD in microbiology, biology or closely related discipline

  • Postdoctoral research experience in microbiology and well-developed research plan or program

  • Experience teaching undergraduate biology courses as instructor of record

  • Successful candidates will have demonstrated a commitment to promoting equity, diversity and inclusion in an educational environment.

Preferred Quals Summary

● Prior teaching experience as instructor of record for lecture and laboratory introductory biology courses

● Prior experience applying active-learning or student-centered pedagogy

● Prior teaching experience in the field of microbiology

● Demonstrated expertise in applying bioinformatics in microbiological research

● Experience or openness to collaborating in a coordinated teaching environment for multi-section courses
