Department Information

The Department of Kinesiology, located within the College of Education, offers degrees at the associate, baccalaureate, and graduate levels of higher education to students interested in careers in fitness, strength and conditioning, healthcare, and K-12 teaching. The kinesiology curriculum has a strong science base, and our undergraduate programs provide a great foundation to prepare students for graduate school in the field of Kinesiology and healthcare including, but not limited to, biomechanics, exercise physiology, athletic training, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or physician assistant programs. The department serves approximately 600 students and has 20 full-time faculty as well as several part-time faculties.

Job Summary

The Kinesiology Department in the College of Education (COE) at the University of North Georgia (UNG) is currently accepting applications for a tenure-track assistant professor to teach in the areas of kinesiology, exercise science, and health and fitness on the Dahlonega Campus. The start date is August 1, 2024, and the position is a 10-month appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Teach at least 12 credit hours per semester (fall/spring) at the undergraduate and/or graduate programs.

  • Advise undergraduate and/or graduate students;

  • Contribute to service at the departmental, college, university, and professional levels;

  • Demonstrate a commitment to a research agenda and the production of scholarship/research; and

  • Collaborate with Department of Kinesiology, College of Education, and institutional faculty to foster student and program success.

Required Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate in Exercise Physiology or related kinesiology field.

  • Teaching and research experience in exercise science, health and fitness or related fields; and

  • Experience teaching in both face-to-face and online settings..

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to teach across Exercise Science and Health and Fitness curricula

  • Professional certifications and/or licenses in the field of Kinesiology, such as NSCA or ACSM.

  • Contemporary knowledge of teaching and learning practices;

  • Contemporary knowledge of theoretical and applied concepts in a kinesiology-related field;

  • Ability to work effectively and collegially with peers within the department, College, and across campuses and programs.
