OHIO University Lancaster and the Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education are seeking candidates for Assistant Professor of Instruction in Early Childhood and Middle Childhood Education with an emphasis on classroom and clinical instruction, Placement Coordinator and University Clinical Educator.

This is a non-tenure track 10-month contract position (August 1 through May 31 each year) beginning Fall Semester 2024. The individual will hold a teaching load of 9 credit/contact hours per semester, with additional administrative responsibilities for coordinating clinical placements, practicums, and internships for education students. This includes all aspects of placement and record-keeping, coordination with program coordinators, communication with students about required paperwork, BCI and FBI background checks, submitting compensation paperwork, completion and forwarding of clinical placements spreadsheets to the college. The successful candidate will serve as a primary liaison between schools and the university, and supervise students completing experiences in local and surrounding schools and early childhood programs. This includes observation of students in the classroom as they implement field-based course assignments, completion of written evaluation, conferencing with students, and sharing evaluation paperwork with course faculty, responding to concerns about field experiences communicated through the schools, the students, and faculty. Facilitate the distribution of information about OAE (Ohio Assessments of Educators), maintain records of Education students, and other documents needed for the education program. Serve as a resource to students regarding programmatic questions, background checks, and preparation for licensure exams (OAE and edTPA).

Our teacher training program is committed to supporting the development of all teachers. Thus, we seek candidates with a commitment to working effectively with students, faculty, and staff from varied backgrounds. Teaching responsibilities include but are not limited to: identify needs of learners relative to the objectives of the program; develop plans for learning experiences in the classroom or clinical setting; create a climate conducive to learning; evaluate learners' progress; maintain appropriate records and reports; reflect, evaluate, and constantly improve one's own teaching techniques and abilities.

Successful candidates will be required to be on campus throughout the academic year (August - May), and the individual is expected to attend regularly scheduled course and faculty meetings with regional colleagues and the Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education to plan course objectives, activities, and meet national accreditation requirements (CAEP); consult with colleagues regarding individual and group student progress and determine if actions are needed.

The role of Placement Coordinator and University Clinical Educator is a dual role held by one faculty member. This position requires face-to-face contact with Professional Interns and Mentor Teachers during P-12 school day hours. This individual is responsible for creating relationships with partnering school districts, securing placements for Professional Interns within those districts, creating a syllabus for EDPL 4650/5650 which includes content delivered in no less than eight two-hour seminar sessions, submission of related credit/no credit scores for related EDPL courses, and scheduled evaluations of the Professional Interns (minimum of five site visits per intern). This Regional Campus Coordinator is charged with submitting placement data into LiveTextFEM, and providing required placement information to the OHIO Center for Clinical Practice in Education on a regular basis. Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned Master's Degree in Education or higher at the time of application.

  • Hold a current/permanent/unexpired teaching license or is eligible for licensure.

  • Experience teaching both elementary and middle childhood levels in order to meet qualifications to instruct classes in the ECEE and MCE programs.

  • Evidence of leadership in teaching.

  • Participation in professional organizations and relevant community activities.

  • At least three (3) years of teaching experience with satisfactory evaluations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ABD or a Doctorate Degree in Education.

  • Experience working with student interns.
