The School of Lifelong Learning in the College of Education and Human Development is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Human Resource Development.

We welcome applicants whose teaching, research, service, grant activity, and other scholarly or civic activities demonstrate alignment with the expansion and development of the Professional Interdisciplinary Studies degree program and the growth of the Human Resource Development Concentration.

The faculty, staff, and students in the School of Lifelong Learning are seeking innovative, ambitious, and creative people who are passionate about adult education and training, strengthening the connections between college coursework and career placement, expanding the digital literacy/21st century workforce competences of nontraditional students, and elevating the role of Jackson State University as a site of positive change in the realm of adult higher education, professional development, and community engagement. We are seeking collaborative new team members who conduct (and actively engage undergraduate students in conducting) high quality research/scholarship. Additionally, we seek candidates who will be able to work with their colleagues to redesign and teach rigorous in-person and fully online undergraduate level courses, non-credit seminars, and workshops for JSU students and community members.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Education

Terminal degree, Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Human Resource Development, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Adult Education, Workforce Development or a closely related field of study at the time of appointment (ABO candidates are welcomed).

Minimum Required Experience

  • A record of higher education teaching experience and online teaching.

  • Academic research experience (publications and/or grants) related to adult education, career development and professional training; such as: Professional Human Resources, Senior Profession Human Resources, or other HR and/or instructional design professional certifications.

  • Experience in teaching, advising, research and scholarly publications.

  • Experience advising non-traditional adult learners, transfer students, etc.

Minimum Required Licenses and/or Certifications

None required.

Qualifications

  • Candidates need to have an established record of (or a strong potential for) excellence in research in areas such as: HRD interventions that are designed to promote workforce development; such as: Adult education and career transitions; Recruitment and Retention of Non-traditional/Adult Learners or the use of emerging technology (especially artificial intelligence) to improve the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of adult learners in higher education.

  • Demonstrated record of effective online teaching and engagement.

  • Commitment to proactively fostering a strong collaborative environment by being visible and engaged in department, school, college, and university meetings and programs.
