Position Duties/Responsibilities

A faculty member in the Graduate Nursing Degree Program has responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, teaching, university/community service, and research/scholarly work. Specific duties include: implements University and College policies and procedures; implements the program curricula; participates in curriculum and course planning, implementation, and evaluation; assists in evaluating clinical settings and experiences related to course and student learning needs; evaluates the clinical competence of students accurately; serves on University and College of Nursing and Health Professions committees; conducts scholarly activity appropriate to the discipline; participates in professional activity which enhances the education mission of the college and contributes to the discipline; fosters collegial relationships and respect for faculty, staff, and students, presents self as a positive and professional role model; participates in community service.

Teaching

The primary duty of all faculty members is effective classroom teaching Faculty members holding the terminal degree teach 12 hours per semester. Full-time faculty members are expected to schedule at least ten office hours each week for a regular semester and at least five office hours each week of a summer session.

Research and Productive Scholarship

  • Publication or presentation in an appropriate professional setting

  • Professional recognition and involvement in one's discipline outside of the college

  • Participation or attendance at professional development activities

  • Scholarly activity appropriate to the discipline

  • Professional activity which enhances teaching or other aspects of the educational/teaching mission of the college and contributes to the discipline.

University and Community Services

  • Academic advising and providing student assistance with degree/curricula/career options

  • Committee work (department, college, and university)

  • Assigned duties

Academic Affairs

  • Participate in commencement ceremonies each semester

  • Foster collegial relationships and respect for faculty, staff, and students.

  • Observe and comply with state and institutional policies and procedures.

Required/Preferred Qualifications

Required: Doctoral Degree in Nursing from a nationally accredited institution. Current Louisiana licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN). Significant nursing practice experience. Demonstrate expertise in nursing education. Prior experience teaching nursing students at the undergraduate and /or graduate level with a strong understanding of pedagogical principles and instructional methodologies. Candidates with experience with learning management systems and online teaching preferred. Experience with simulation teaching preferred. Additional preference includes education preparation as a Nurse Educator or who have experience teaching at the baccalaureate, master's and /or doctoral levels.

Transcripts from Foreign Universities: Prospective faculty submitting transcripts from foreign universities or schools must have the coursework evaluated for equivalency to United States-accredited coursework by a University-approved agency. The prospective faculty member is responsible for the cost of the evaluation. McNeese typically accepts evaluations by World Education Services (www.wes.org) or Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc.www.ece.org.
