Advertised Job Summary
The Theatre Program within the Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of South Carolina invites applications for a nine-month tenure track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor of Film and Media Performance with a start date of August 16, 2019.
The responsibilities of the position will require teaching a three course load per semester from coursework across the theatre and dance curriculum. All tenure-track faculty are expected to develop and maintain a scholarly profile that aligns with the expectations of tenure and promotion at a Carnegie R1 Institution and participate in service within and beyond campus including: attendance at program and departmental meetings, active participation in recruitment efforts, advising students, participation in departmental, college, and university committees, and professional stewardship in the field.
Duties will include teaching and developing course from the range of options below with the ultimate goal of creating a film performance focus within the existing theatre curriculum: Introduction to screen acting, audition technique, the digital actor, an actor's reel, performance for new media, introduction to visual storytelling for screen acting and acting on camera the collaborative process.
The Department of Theatre and Dance is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre, is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, and offers a BA, MA, MAT, and an MFA degree.
Required Education and Experience
The successful applicant should have a Ph.D.,M.F.A. or Master's degree in film and television and equivalent expertise, training and experience, with an (exceptional) record of professional creative achievement in film and television productions. Candidates should demonstrate excellence in teaching, course development, advising, mentoring, research/creative work (individually and with students), service and grant proposal writing. Successful candidates should also have the experience to supervise students in creative / research endeavors to satisfy requirements for a film performance focus.
Candidates should have an established professional production experience (Actor/Director/Casting Director). Ideally, the candidate should hold an MFA and have previous teaching experience teaching at the university level.
