The ideal candidate will have knowledge and expertise in molecular, cellular, and/or physiological aspects of reproduction with interest and experience in equine. Additionally, the candidate is expected to use both in vitro and in vivo approaches to provide Montana's stakeholders with evidence-based information on reproductive management practices. Teaching expectations will include undergraduate courses in equine reproduction and emerging reproductive technologies in livestock, as well as one graduate course that meets the needs of the department and students (alternate years). This is a tenure-track position, and the selected candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence in scholarship, teaching and service with the ability to integrate no less than two of the three.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Animal and Range Sciences seeks a talented individual who is, passionate about improving reproductive physiology in equids and other livestock species to the benefit of Montana, National, and International producers and the Livestock Industry at large, and about educating animal science students and developing the next generation of faculty, researchers, and leaders by:

Providing instructional leadership and oversight of undergraduate and graduate reproductive physiology courses.
Advising undergraduate students in our Animal Science program.
Developing an independently focused, but collaborative research/scholarship program that addresses the needs of regional producers and industry stakeholders.
Seeking and securing external funding to sustainably support research efforts.
Engaging and mentoring graduate students in your research/scholarship program.
Engaging with and being responsive to producers and industry stakeholders throughout Montana.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Ph.D. in animal science or a closely related field with an emphasis in reproduction.
Experience conducting independent research.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate successfully with faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous research experience in reproductive physiology and/or equine science.
Strong history of quality publication(s) in refereed journals relative to academic stage.
Experience in securing extramural funding.
Demonstrated teaching experience.
A Passion for graduate and undergraduate education.

The Department of Animal & Range Sciences is part of the College of Agriculture at Montana State University in Bozeman, MT. The Department of Animal and Range Sciences offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Animal Science (options include Science, Equine Science, and Livestock Management and Industry) or Natural Resources and Rangeland Ecology (options include Rangeland Ecology and Management, and Wildlife Ecology and Management) to approximately 400 undergraduate majors. Housed in the Animal Bioscience Building (ABB), the Department of Animal & Range Sciences contains state-of-the-art teaching and research resources and oversees ~15,000 acres of animal research facilities located as close as ~1 mile from the ABB at the Bozeman Agricultural Research and Teaching Farm, and within 40 mins at our Red Bluff Research Ranch, and Ft. Ellis Research Farm facilities.
