SUMMARY OF POSITION: Responsibilities include teaching engineering courses (Graphical Communication, Statics, Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Mechanics of Materials, Fluid Mechanics) while maintaining the college's high reputation of preparing students for transfer. Other duties include student advising, record keeping, committee work, submitting grades by the established deadline, and other duties as assigned by the Department Chair and the Dean of Humanities, Arts & Sciences.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in engineering or Master's degree with at least 18 graduate credits (500+ level) in Engineering.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to articulate and support the community college philosophy with a strong commitment to teaching and learning in a community college setting.

  • Good computer software skills - Microsoft Office, email and Outlook calendar.

  • Ability to work as a team member.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer.

  • Post-secondary teaching experience.

  • Experience with a variety of teaching resources, media and technologies, including computer-aided instruction and/or online instruction technologies.

  • Experience with non-traditional teaching methods such as facilitating group work, use of inquiry-based and other active learning pedagogies, and/or contextualized instruction.

  • Experience teaching with technology and a willingness to explore innovative course delivery methods.

COMPENSATION: Nine month full-time tenure track position. Eligible for a $1,500 sign-on bonus payable at the completion of the first full semester. The course load is 12 credits per semester (or 24 credits per academic year) and may involve travel to the university sites in Bismarck or Williston, teaching via interactive video, and/or teaching online. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: This position reports to the Chair of the Department of Natural Sciences MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Ph. D. in Chemistry or closely related field (from a regionally accredited institution) * Knowledge in general chemistry, with emphasis in physical chemistry * Laboratory and field skills appropriate to specific area of expertise * Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills * Organizational and prioritization abilities; detail oriented work style PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * College teaching experience * Experience with undergraduate research * Ability to integrate technology in educational settings COMPENSATION: Includes a salary of $56,000 - $59,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience. The course load is 12 credits per semester (or 24 credits per academic year) and may involve travel to the university's sites in Bismarck or Williston, teaching via interactive video, or teaching online. * Teaching effectiveness includes 1) teach assigned class loads, 2) make appropriate preparations for the semester including syllabus preparation, preparation of lecture and/or studio materials, preparation of tests and assignments as needed/appropriate, revise course materials when needed, and provide measurable objectives for student performance, 3) act as a professional role model to students, 4) communicate effectively with students, 5) arrive at class punctually and use class time effectively, 6) stay current in field of expertise, 7) be available to and provide assistance to students, and 8) perform other teaching duties as assigned or noted by supervisor.
