Job Description:

The Education Department at Wittenberg University seeks to hire a full-time, tenure track assistant professor in literacy and language arts and/or STEM at the elementary level (P-5) beginning August 1, 2024. Wittenberg is committed to attracting and retaining highly qualified individuals who collectively reflect the diversity of our student body and society at-large.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses, supervise students in both course-specific field experiences and student teaching, and advise students. They will also have opportunities to teach other courses in areas of their expertise at both the undergraduate and graduate level, serve on graduate student thesis or capstone committees, and participate in the department's many school- and community-based projects and partnerships. Although first and foremost a teacher, this position requires promise for engagement in significant professional activity and service to Wittenberg's campus and to one's academic community. Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience teaching language arts and literature or STEM in mid- to upper-elementary grades.

Wittenberg's Education Department is deeply invested in community improvement, and we maintain local, national, and international partnerships that provide our students and faculty with a range of teaching and learning experiences. We are a CAEP accredited institution and the Education Department cherishes its role as part of Wittenberg's liberal arts tradition.

Requirements:

A terminal degree in literacy or a STEM related field is required; candidates that are working towards the completion of a terminal degree in these fields will be considered. Candidates must have a minimum of three years teaching experience under a state-issued license.

We are looking not only for evidence of teaching effectiveness and a diverse background, but also for dedication to teacher preparation, knowledge of best instructional practices, a commitment to liberal arts education, a sense of humor, and evidence of excellent team membership. A record of scholarly work, active participation in professional organizations, and experience working with school-based colleagues is also preferred.

For further information about the position, please contact the chair of the Education Department at amcguffey@wittenberg.edu.

Additional Information:

The successful candidate will demonstrate support for diversity, equity and inclusiveness as well as participate in maintaining a respectful, positive work environment. Please see our notice of nondiscrimination housed on our website.
