Harris-Stowe State University is a historically Black institution (HBCU) located in the heart of vibrant midtown St. Louis, Missouri. The College of Education is seeking applications for a full-time, tenure track, 10-month appointment in its College of Education. The College of Education is fully accredited and currently offers undergraduate degrees in early childhood, elementary, middle school, secondary education and educational studies. This position reports to the College of Education Dean.

Responsibilities:

Teach courses in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, and Early Literacy content embedded in Assessment, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possess knowledge in the area of Common Core State Standards, Evaluation, and Assessment in Education

  • Assist in the recruitment and advising of early childhood education majors

  • Possess strong verbal and written skills that will assist the unit in its ongoing accreditation, data collection and reporting processes.

  • Supervise undergraduate student teacher candidates.

  • Pursue a focused area of research and scholarship that culminates in publications, professional presentations, and submission of grant proposals.

  • Hold active membership in relevant professional associations/organizations.

  • Serve on committees and participate in official activities at the department, college and university levels.

  • Possess dispositions of professionalism, competence, reflection, and the ability to work with diverse populations of students, faculty, and community partners.

  • Operate as a team player and adhere to policy, procedures and timelines.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD or EdD in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, or related area, from an accredited institution.

  • Withholds a current teacher certification.

  • At least five (5) years of experience teaching in the P-12 setting, at the college/university level.

  • Experience teaching online courses.

  • Candidates must be prepared to teach day as well as evening and weekend classes.

Salary commensurate with experience.

The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching courses in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, and Early Literacy content embedded in Assessment, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. In addition, this individual will assist in the recruitment and advising of early childhood education majors.
