The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice in the College of Arts and Sciences at Seton Hall University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with an anticipated start date of August 2024. The Criminal Justice program consists of a 36-credit hour curriculum and serves nearly 300 undergraduate majors and minors. The ideal candidate should be able to teach a broad range of undergraduate courses in Criminal Justice and Criminology including but not limited to, criminological theory, research methods, and senior seminar, and hold a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or Sociology.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate will be expected to engage in an active research program and teach Criminal Justice and Criminology courses at the undergraduate level (typically 9 credits per semester/18 credits per year). The candidate is also expected to be proficient in academic advising and student mentoring, program and curricular development, and other institutional service activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or Sociology from an accredited university, with a preliminary or comprehensive exam in Criminal Justice or Criminology. ABD candidates may be considered. A Juris Doctorate (J.D.) will not be considered sufficient.

  • A demonstrated record of scholarship in Criminal Justice or Criminology.

  • Undergraduate teaching experience in one or more of the following areas: criminal law, corrections, and victimology.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Research or teaching interests in one of the following areas: corrections, law enforcement, homeland security, big data, machine learning/artificial intelligence.

  • Leadership and mentorship in teaching, research, or service that supports an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.

  • Experience in student advisement.

  • Prior professional experience relevant to assigned course topics.

  • Able to develop online and hybrid modes of course delivery.
