The Department of Computing and Digital Technology at Westminster College is seeking applications for a fulltime tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor to start August 15, 2024. We are seeking a broadly trained and educated individual who has demonstrated passion about teaching computing at every level of the curriculum in a primarily residential, undergraduate, liberal arts institution.

The successful candidate will teach lower- and upper-level courses across the disciplines of digital communications, web design and development, and digital media. Ability to also teach courses in computer systems analysis and cybersecurity would be preferred. We are especially interested in applicants whose research interests and pedagogy will connect and integrate computing and digital technology with other academic disciplines, and who have the potential to collaboratively contribute to interdisciplinary curricular and scholarly efforts within the department as well as across the entire College. In addition, the faculty member will participate in academic advising, new course development, and other departmental functions.

The candidate's background and experience should demonstrate technical competence and teaching experience in digital communications, web design and development, and digital media. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning through hands-on and active learning strategies. Applicants having an earned Doctorate (or ABD) or a Master's degree with industry experience will be considered.

Requirements

Essential Functions:

  • Teach a wide variety of upper- and lower-level courses across the disciplines of digital communications, web design and development, and digital media; ability to also occasionally teach courses in computer systems analysis and/or cybersecurity preferred

  • Collaboratively contribute to interdisciplinary curricular and scholarly efforts within the department as well as across the entire College

  • Work with students as academic advisor

  • Develop new courses in digital media

  • Contribute to departmental program development

  • Participate in departmental administrative activities such as assessment, budgeting, course scheduling, etc.

  • Participate in faculty governance and committee service

  • Maintain regular office hours

  • Teach courses in the Westminster First Year Experience

  • Maintain an agenda for scholarly, professional, and/or creative activity

  • Participate in enrollment activities by meeting with prospective students, preparing recruitment materials, and other activities as requested

Job Requirements:

Education: An earned Doctorate (or ABD) or a Master's degree in this or a related discipline (digital communications, web design, web development, and/or digital media). OR an earned Doctorate (or ABD) or Master's degree in a different discipline with either an earned 18 hours of graduate coursework in this or related discipline OR at least five years of professional experience in industry or college teaching.

Skills:
