Mary's University of San Antonio, a private, Catholic and Marianist university invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Biological Sciences at the rank of assistant professor beginning August 2019.

We are seeking a life scientist with expertise in the area of physiology that will complement the current strengths of the department. The primary responsibilities of candidates will be teaching general human physiology and special consideration will be given if additional courses could be developed in the areas of endocrinology, histology, anatomy, or a similar subject area. While teaching is the primary function of the position, research, especially involving undergraduates, is expected of the successful candidate.

The presence of an active biomedical research community in the San Antonio area provides the opportunity to establish collaborative research projects in many fields. The successful candidate is also expected to become involved in service at the department, school, University, and community levels. The Department of Biological Sciences (https://www.stmarytx.edu/academics/department/biology/) currently employs 12 full-time faculty and serves ~350 undergraduate majors. A Ph.D. in Biology or a related discipline is required and postdoctoral experience is preferred.

Of particular interest are applicants with specializations in the fields of international economics, border economics (with a focus on the U.S.-Mexico border), and complexity economics. Additionally, while mainstream neoclassical theories are an important part of the curriculum, the Department of Economics at St. Mary's also emphasizes heterodox theories of economics and their applications. As such, the applicant must have extensive knowledge of the various heterodox economic schools of thought. Suitable candidates must possess teaching experience, including a strong willingness to work closely with students, and proven research potential in at least one of the aforementioned fields. A Ph.D. in economics, political economy, or related degree is strongly preferred; ABD with expected degree completion date within twelve months of the start of the position will be considered. Education and/or work experience in a foreign country is preferred. Teaching duties will include four courses per semester. The candidate will be expected to teach introduction to microeconomic theory, introduction to macroeconomic theory, intermediate microeconomic theory, international economics, border economics, complexity economics, history of economic thought, and other courses as needed or desired. Heterodox theories will need to be integral components of all of these courses. Research in at least one of these fields will also be required.
