Position Overview

At Keuka College, we are seeking a passionate and experienced Assistant Professor of ASL-English Interpreting to join our Division of Humanities and Fine Arts, to begin August 2024. This tenure-track position offers qualified candidates the opportunity to teach on a flexible hybrid work schedule, with working on-campus and remotely. Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach engaging ASL-interpreting courses in-person and online, providing students with a transformative learning experience.

  • Plan course instruction based on program and course goals, ensuring a dynamic and interactive learning environment.

  • Assess student achievement through essays, examinations, and projects, providing constructive feedback and support.

  • Grow the reputation and desirability of our AEI program by recruiting and retaining highly motivated qualified students.

  • Revise interpreting curriculum

  • Develop online ASL-English interpreting program.

  • Create a positive and inclusive environment that promotes active student engagement and fosters a love for learning.

  • Contribute to program assessment and improvement, ensuring our students learning outcomes align with industry standards.

  • Guide and mentor ASL-English Interpreting majors, providing academic advising and support throughout their journey.

  • Collaborate with admissions and represent the major and division at recruiting functions, showcasing the unique opportunities.

  • Maintain an active research agenda that aligns with the institution's mission and contributes to your professional growth.

  • Engage with the Keuka College community through participation in division functions and community activities.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in a related field (preferred), or an MA/MS in interpreting, linguistics, ASL, intercultural communication, education, foreign language instruction, or related field

  • Native or near-native fluency in American Sign Language and Deaf Culture, with excellent oral and written English skills.

  • Current certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), or Certification from the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA), and/or American Sign Language Teacher Association (ASLTA)

  • Experience teaching introductory and advanced ASL-English Interpreting courses at the college level, in-person and online.

  • Strong organizational skills, ability to work collaboratively, and commitment to providing a transformative learning experience.

  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of students and colleagues.

  • Ability to work under pressure, adapt to diverse groups of people, and maintain a professional and positive attitude.

  • For hybrid schedule, candidate must have access to work in setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at a remote location.

Salary Description

$58,000-63,000/year
