Job Summary:

The College of Health Sciences and Technology at STU invites applications for a position at the level of Assistant Professor of Health Sciences to start no later than August 2024. The duties include teaching twelve semester credit hours of undergraduate and graduate courses each semester. The candidate shall have a Ph.D. from an accredited higher education institution, strong communication and organizational skills and a desire to develop innovative learning experiences. He or she should also have a commitment to high quality teaching and the ability to work in a multicultural environment. St Thomas University is a multicultural Catholic institution located in Miami, Florida. Research that complements our current Health Sciences core faculty is a plus but not a requirement. Shared core research equipment is available. The candidate will be in the unique position of helping guide the growth and future of our existing Health Sciences program. The candidate will work with current faculty to recruit, advise, and retain students

The position is a nine-month faculty position in the Department of Health Sciences. The successful candidate will be able to foster an environment of professionalism and collaboration, demonstrate exceptional ability to function as part of a team with university faculty and the community of practice and engage in practices that support the University's focus on student engagement and active learning.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching undergraduate Exercise Science and Allied Health courses with a 24- credit teaching load

  • Advise exercise science, undergraduate students

  • Ordering of supplies and upkeep of the Exercise Science lab and equipment

  • Teach material from the approved curriculum in accordance with the assigned schedule to ensure student satisfaction.

  • Assist students in achieving completion of objectives and learning outcomes.

  • Motivate students to actively participate in all aspects of the educational process.

  • Maintain and report student grades and attendance in accordance with university policies.

  • Preparing and disseminating weekly announcements, communicating with students via e-mails, preparing course videos, moderating discussion board forums, and grading weekly.

  • The instructor will also carry out administrative responsibilities as directed by the Program Director; these administrative tasks include roster verification, reporting items, timely submission of final grades, etc.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

The candidate must have a doctoral degree in a related field with the academic credentials to teach in one or more of the following areas: exercise physiology, statistical analysis in exercise science, research methods, biomechanics, strength development, motor learning, and exercise testing.

Applicants must have the ability to meet Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements, in particular a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.
