Position Title Assistant Professor of Accounting Position Classification Faculty Employment Type Full-Time Benefits Full Time Benefitted Department School of Business Summary

Use appropriate teaching methods to facilitate student learning for students majoring in Accounting and other Business Administration courses.

Duties

  • Teaching responsibilities consist of 12 credit hours per semester comprising of lectures and labs.

  • Primary responsibility will be the instruction of undergraduate and graduate Accounting courses. Secondary responsibility may include instruction in other business-related fields such as Management, Marketing, or Finance.

  • Develops syllabi, maintains materials and supplies for the classes assigned.

  • Advises and mentors students for major and minor degree plans.

  • Establishes, monitors, and modifies work schedules and assignments of work-study students and graduate assistants working within the Business Administration disciplines.

  • Supervises the Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program of the School of Business.

  • Adapts courses to current technology applicable to the discipline and teaches online and/or televised courses as needed.

  • Conducts research program or other scholarship activities suitable to a small, teaching university that accommodates the inclusion of undergraduate students.

  • Provides professional contributions within areas of expertise as appropriate.

  • Participates in departmental and University committees and special projects.

  • Provides a broad range of administrative and supervisory functions. Supervises assigned staff in accordance with WNMU personnel practices including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, guidance, etc. Participates in the process of ongoing personal and professional development. Maintains comprehensive communication among all contacts (internal and external). Models professional standards and ethics in accordance with WNMU philosophy.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Background

The preferred candidate will hold a Doctorate in Accounting. ABD's nearing completion will be considered. Applicants who have a Master's Degree in Accounting and who hold a current CPA certificate with 5 years of related work experience, or who have a doctorate in a non-accounting discipline with at least 18 graduate credits in the area(s) of teaching responsibility with 5 years of successful teaching, work related, or consulting experience will also be considered. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Job Knowledge

Ability and willingness to adapt courses to current technology applicable to the discipline. Teach online and/or video conferenced courses. Qualifications to teach other business disciplines such as Management, Marketing, or Finance preferred but not required. Ability to teach web-based courses. Ability to conduct research, submit publications, and apply for grants. Ability to serve on university committees and community organizations. Participation in state and/or national professional organizations. Must be able to adapt to instructional needs of the School of Business depending on changing circumstances. Must become knowledgeable of university policies and procedures. Must be able to handle multiple deadlines and maintain accuracy. Must be sensitive to cultural differences within the university and community. Fluent with Microsoft Office Applications.

Working Conditions/ Physical Demands (With or Without Accommodations)

Normal classroom or laboratory environment. May travel some within the community when needed. May be required to lift normal office equipment and materials. Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information. Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication. Hearing ability for verbal communication/ conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions. Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing, reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, and prolonged sitting. May be required to work additional hours or days depending on circumstances.
