Job Description:

The Biological Sciences Department at SUNY Old Westbury is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Microbiology starting Fall 2024. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Biology or related field, preferably with postdoctoral experience, undergraduate teaching experience, and a publication track record in the field of Microbiology commensurate with experience. We seek a highly trained individual who is committed to liberal arts education and can demonstrate excellence in teaching and research while working with a culturally diverse student population. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate (at the Masters level) courses in Microbiology, as well as introductory and non-major courses as needed. The candidate will be expected to develop a strong extramurally funded research program that involves undergraduate students. Involvement in college service is also expected.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in Biology with a specialization and/or post-doctoral experience in Microbiology.

  • Experience teaching biology courses at the undergraduate level.

  • A record of recent peer-reviewed publications in the required area of specialization.

  • Potential to develop an extramurally funded undergraduate research project in the required area of specialization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based teaching approaches.

  • Experience teaching undergraduate biology courses in the required area of specialization.

  • Experience teaching a culturally diverse undergraduate student population.

  • Experience mentoring undergraduate students in research.

  • Demonstrated plan to integrate your research into the curriculum.

  • Currently funded research and/or a record of successful grantsmanship.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $57,899.00 - $80,000.00 commensurate with experience
