Job Description:

The Department of Politics, Economics and Law at SUNY Old Westbury is seeking applications for an economist with a Ph.D. for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position starting Fall 2025. The Politics, Economics and Law (PEL) Department offers four majors (B.A. in PEL, B.S. in Economics, and B.A./B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations). The teaching load is three courses per semester.

Candidates must be able to teach undergraduate economics courses in our interdisciplinary curriculum, as well as in our economics major. As part of their responsibilities, candidates should be comfortable teaching core courses in economic principles for interdisciplinary students, Intermediate Microeconomics or Macroeconomics to economics majors, and upper division courses in political economy (U.S. or global) including economic history.

Priority will be offered to candidates who can also teach elective courses in some subset of the following fields: labor economics, health economics, political economy of race, gender or class.

In addition to teaching duties, the candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of scholarly research and publication, and to actively participate in service activities in the department and the university including, but not limited to, advising students, program assessment, curriculum development and committee responsibilities.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Economics or a related field or ABD with an anticipated completion date of August 1, 2025, or sooner.

  • Previous teaching experience at the college level.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience teaching some of the following courses: Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Macroeconomics, Intermediate Microeconomic, Intermediate Macroeconomics, Political Economy (U.S. or global), Labor Economics, Political Economy of Race, Gender or Class, Health Economics.

  • A demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and continued scholarly activity.

  • Experience teaching a culturally diverse undergraduate student population.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $59,899.00 - $77,000.00 commensurate with education and experience (plus location pay $4,000.00)
