The Department of Communication & Journalism at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Media and Journalism for the 2019-2020 academic year, starting August 2019.
The Department offers undergraduate majors in Communication and in Journalism and Mass Communication, a general communication M.A. degree, and a doctoral degree with emphasis on media, intercultural, and health communication. The department seeks candidates whose scholarly/creative activity will contribute to our graduate emphases. We look for a colleague whose teaching or professional experience can provide students with the theoretical understanding, multimedia production experience, writing, and editing skills necessary to engage with the ways that current technologies have transformed communication-related fields across multiple platforms.
Faculty members in this position typically teach two courses per semester at the graduate, advanced undergraduate, and introductory undergraduate levels, with the possibility to teach in their areas of specialization. They will also be expected to advise graduate students (M.A./Ph.D.); maintain an active research or creative agenda related to Media and/or Journalism, and perform departmental, university, and disciplinary service.
Doctorate in Media Studies, Journalism or closely related field, completed by August 1, 2019.
Record of publications and research agenda in Media and/or Journalism.
Demonstrated excellence in university level teaching record.
Ability to teach writing or production courses.
Experience in multimedia production.
Record of active involvement in Media and/or Journalism associations.
Demonstrated departmental, institutional, and disciplinary service.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
