Job Description:

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Salve Regina University invites applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level starting in the fall 2020 semester. The department offers a major and a minor in mathematics, an interdisciplinary minor in mathematical finance, and provides the mathematics and computer science components of dual 3+2 (BA/BS) and 3+3 (BA/MS) engineering programs with Washington University in St.

Louis.

Additionally, the department offers courses in the core curriculum and courses that constitute the mathematics, statistics, and computer science components of other programs at the university. The Mathematical Sciences Department is developing a minor in computer science, and a dual degree program leading to a B.S. in computational mathematics and a masters' degree in data science.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties include teaching undergraduate mathematics courses, advising students, mentoring student research, and serving on committees. Candidates who can, additionally, teach computer science courses (e.g., algorithms and data structures, data mining, and machine learning), or data science courses will be preferred. The successful candidate is expected to engage in research and scholarship, for example, publications in peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations, grant activity, development of industrial partnerships, development of interdisciplinary partnerships with other academic departments, software development; and to participate in university service and university outreach programs.

Requirements:

Candidates must have a doctorate in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field by fall 2020, and evidence of strong teaching ability. While candidates with research interests in any area of mathematics, computer science, data science, or statistics are welcome to apply, the successful candidate will be able to teach undergraduate mathematics; preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate an interest and ability to help develop a minor in computer science and/or program in data science.

Job Description: Salve Regina University invites applications for the Writing Center Director at the rank of Affiliate Assistant Professor. This is a non-tenure track position to begin in September 2019. The Writing Center Director supports writing across campus for faculty and students through special programming and Writing Center services. Responsibilities include: working closely with the Writing Center Coordinator to ensure best practice for general in-Writing Center operations and Writing Center embedded programs; training faculty for writing instruction, specifically in first-year University Seminars; teaching first-year University Seminars and Advanced Composition. The teaching load is 2/2. This is a 10-month academic support position with competitive benefits and professional development funding at a vibrant institution. The Writing Center Director provides leadership, strategic vision, and innovation in design and delivery of peer writing consultation. Manages the budget and supervises the Writing Center Coordinator who is responsible for the management of the day-to-day functions of the Writing Center, initial Writing Consultant training, supplementary in-classroom writing instruction and writing workshops for discipline-specific writing. Additionally, the Director ensures compliance with CRLA certification requirements and the development and advanced training of tutors. Creates end of semester and annual usage reports for the Writing Center and updates the annual assessment plan. Consults with and provides training for faculty who are teaching UNV 101 and UNV 102, as well as other writing-designated courses. Serves on appropriate university committees and helps with UNV 101 and UNV 102 assessment. The Salve Regina University Writing Center is housed in McKillop Library and employs twenty-four student writing consultants. During the 2018-2019 academic year, the Writing Center hosted more than 70 writing workshops and 900 one-on-one session for a total of over 2,000 student interactions. The Salve Regina Writing Center leads evening and in-class workshops and offers embedded Writing Consultant programs to University Seminars and courses with discipline-specific writing such as nursing, administration of justice, biology, and education. The Writing Center also works closely with the library to support research-related writing. Requirements: Terminal degree in Rhetoric and Composition by date of employment (September 2019); emphasis, concentration, or research-focus in writing center studies preferred. Experience managing and tutoring in a college writing center. Experience working with and relating to students in higher education. Administrative and supervisory experience preferred. Experience in academic support services at the college level.
