Range: $85,000- $95,000 based on experience

Position Summary: Applications are sought from an individual whose research includes materials science, composite materials, microstructural analysis, structural and fatigue analysis, microscopist applied to the mechanical and aerospace engineering fields.

Successful candidates will be expected to teach fundamental undergraduate and graduate courses in materials science, solid mechanics, and advanced materials processing, in addition to developing strong externally funded research programs.

Applicants should articulate a clear and substantiated vision of how their background can lead to sustained accomplishments through teaching, research, and an ability to engage in interdisciplinary activities and projects within one of the areas identified above.

General Purpose: Teach in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering program and provide materials-related research opportunities to graduate & undergraduate students.

This position will be open until filled.

The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) Department of the Wallace H. Coulter School of Engineering at Clarkson University invites applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor rank in Mechanical Engineering starting in August 1st, 2024, academic year.

A Ph.D. in Mechanical, Materials and/or Aerospace Engineering or related area is required. Applications are sought from an individual with a research focus in material science, composite materials, microstructural analysis, structural and fatigue analysis, microscopist applied to the mechanical and aerospace engineering field.

We are looking for faculty who are able and excited to contribute to the continued evolution of our Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering program. Successful candidates will be expected to teach fundamental undergraduate and graduate courses in Mechanical and/or Materials Engineering and develop strong externally funded research programs.

Applicants should articulate a clear and substantiated vision of how their background can lead to sustained accomplishments through teaching, research, and an ability to engage in interdisciplinary activities and projects within one of the areas identified above. Applicants should also describe how they will foster and contribute to a diverse educational environment.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Teaching in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Programs

  • Perform research in the field of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering or related area

  • Advising both undergraduate and graduate students

  • Performing service duties for the Department, University, and Profession

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to perform independent research

  • Ability to fund research projects through successful proposals

  • Ability to teach high-level topics in Structural Analysis, Material Science,

  • Strong writing and editorial skills.

Education:

Minimal Qualifications: Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, Engineering Science or related fields - All Ph.D. requirements should be completed by the time work commences.

Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Engineering Science, combined with strong publication record.

Experience:

Minimal Qualifications: i) Previous research experience in mechanical, materials and/or aerospace engineering; ii) previous experience in teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in their field at a university level.
