The Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy of the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University, Augusta, GA, invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Augusta University includes a state-supported comprehensive academic medical center whose mission is to train physicians and other health professionals to meet the health care needs of the state.

The Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy prides itself in state-of-the art interdisciplinary research and excellence in education. The successful candidate will play an active role and work with a talented team of colleagues to teach medical, graduate, and allied health sciences students in large and small group classroom and laboratory sessions while participating in a new medical education curriculum that offers students personalized educational pathways including an option of completing medical school in three years for those pursuing primary care specialties within the state of Georgia. The successful candidate will advance the educational mission both within the department and as part of many interdisciplinary educational initiatives.

We are seeking a collaborative colleague who will contribute to the educational team. This position is not considered to be on tenure track.

Responsibilities

• Teach anatomical sciences, including gross anatomy, histology, and neuroanatomy in the Medical College of Georgia

• Participate on various committees and provide public and professional service to the community and the department/college/university/USG

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have a PhD and/or MD/DO or equivalent and experience in teaching the anatomical sciences, including Gross Anatomy.

Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

• Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)¿s requirements for institutional accreditation;

• Evidence of ability as a teacher;

• Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;

• Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,

• Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in teaching Histology and/or Neuroanatomy is desirable.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class.
