About This Role:
The University seeks a person who is fluent in American Sign Language, with high energy, enthusiasm, and vision to work within the department. The Department offers coursework at the undergraduate level in the area of American Sign Language (BA-ASL with three tracks; ASL-General, K-12 Teaching, and Educational Interpreter). At the graduate level the department has a Master's degree in Deaf Education and another in Deaf Studies. At the Doctoral level, the department has a long-standing Ed.D. in Deaf Studies and Deaf Education. In addition, the BA and MS areas offer coursework leading to teacher certification.
What You'll Do
Advise and counsel undergraduate ASL majors and graduate majors in Masters and Doctoral Deaf Education programs.
Teach undergraduate, masters, and doctoral courses within the Department, as program needs mandate.
Serve on departmental, college, and university committees as necessary.
Conduct research, scholarly activities, and grant writing to meet program needs for earning tenure.
Meet other day-to-day responsibilities of the faculty position as necessary.
The candidate must possess strong leadership skills and interpersonal skills with demonstrated work experiences with colleagues exhibiting positive collegiality. Faculty reports to the Chair of the Deaf Studies and Deaf Education Department.

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience)
Have an earned doctoral degree in Deaf Education, American Sign Language, Linguistics, or a closely related field. ABDs or close to ABD may be considered.
Knowledge of Deaf culture and extensive personal and professional experiences within the Deaf community as well as fluency in American Sign Language.
Demonstrated teaching, research, and publication skills.
The applicant should have a research agenda to satisfy the conditions for tenure.
Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience)
Ability to demonstrate depth of knowledge and understanding in ASL Acquisition by L1 and L2 learners
Ability to teach Research Design and Statistics
Ability to teach courses in Psycholinguistics, Cognition, and Assessment
Ability to teach Deaf Administration and Deaf Law
