Stephens College invites applications for a full-time 9-month non-tenure track position in Equestrian Studies (rank at hire commensurate with experience). We are most interested in a faculty member with expertise in the Saddle Seat riding discipline and one or more of the following areas: Equine Event Management, Equine Marketing and Public Relations, and Equine Business Management. We are seeking a collaborative equestrian who is passionate about teaching students with various levels of horse experience from the beginner through the advanced level.

The ideal candidate will bring their lived experience and expertise in equine business to our students, be committed to advancing equine welfare, and be capable of teaching courses such as Equine Business Practices, Equine Marketing Sales and Negotiations, and Management of Equestrian Events.

Responsibilities:

  • Instruction and Program Development: Teach undergraduate courses in equine business and the Saddle Seat riding program; Provide instruction and mentorship to students participating in local and national horse show competitions, ensuring a high standard of performance; and Assist in development of curricula and programs within the program.

  • Student Evaluation and Academic Advising: Assess and evaluate students' progress across all equine courses within the curriculum; Advise and mentor students during their college career; Assist with the student first year experience.

  • Horse Care and Event Management: Oversee the care, grooming, and maintenance of horses assigned to the saddle seat string; Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the overall equestrian program participating in special events, competitions, and activities both on and off stable property.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in Equine Science/Studies/Business, or a related field.

  • Five years' teaching and training experience at the professional level within the equine industry.

  • Extensive show experience ranging from local to national levels, with a specialization in Saddle Seat at the professional level.

  • Proficiency in equine first aid and emergency care.

Highly Desired:

  • Experience mentoring undergraduate students.

  • Involvement with American Saddlebred Horse Association and United Professional Horseman's Association.
