Job Description:

Assistant Professor- Energy Resources Economist

The SUNY-ESF Department Sustainable Resources Management (http://www.esf.edu/srm/) invites applications invites applications for an academic year, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank, starting in the Fall of 2024. We seek individuals who will advance research and teaching in renewable energy economics.

The ideal candidate would engage in applied research to understand the effects of energy policy choices on potential and existing energy resources, the integration of energy sources into the landscape, the creation of closed-loop energy systems, energy security, the circular economy, and potential impacts of energy choices on the environment, disadvantaged communities, and human health. The selected candidate will be able to leverage and collaborate with the extensive lifecycle assessment, technoeconomic, policy, and feedstock and supply chain research already underway through existing campus initiatives. Some of these initiatives include: the Bioeconomy Development Institute (https://www.esf.edu/bdi/index.php), the Climate and Applied Forest Research Institute (https://www.esf.edu/cafri-ny/index.php), and other ongoing ESF research. It is expected that the selected candidate will conduct empirical and transdisciplinary research in renewable energy economics, markets, and regulation, including bioenergy and biofuels economics, energy and carbon markets, and energy market regulation.

Responsibilities:

Up to three undergraduate courses per academic year: Renewable Energy Finance and Analysis; Energy Markets and Regulation; and Project Management or other courses based on the needs of the program.

Starting Salary: $75,000 - $78,000

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in economics, finance, energy regulation, or related field by date of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Track record of publications in respected journals in the field and successful grant writing.

  • Demonstrated capability as a teacher and mentor of both undergraduates and graduate students.

  • Commitment to diversity and inclusiveness in research, teaching and service activities.
