This is a grant funded 164 day Instructional position. Administration of the learning process (teaching) is to be accomplished in accordance with Federal regulation, Florida State Law, and Florida Gateway College Board Policies.

The primary responsibility of an Instructor at FGC is to the apprentice. All other activities must be considered secondary in importance. The Instructor is expected to allocate time in a manner as to provide online course curriculum, office hours during which the students may have access to the Instructor and conduct observations of apprentices teaching in the public school setting.

Examples of Duties

Uses assessment strategies (traditional and alternate) to assist the continuous development of the adult learner, while supporting and maintaining positive learning environments in which students are actively engaged.

Adheres to the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct of the Education Profession in Florida.

Works with various educational professionals and other stakeholders, including district partners, principals and cooperating teachers, in the continuous improvement of the educational experiences of students.

Uses appropriate technology in the teaching and learning process.

Collaborates weekly with cooperating teacher to support apprentice and ongoing professional development.

Maintains curriculum, assessments, and collects data that demonstrates apprentices' mastery of the Florida Standards, FEAPs, PECs, UCC, and Elementary Education K-6.

Conducts weekly observations of apprentices teaching in the field and gives feedback to improve apprentices' teaching skills.

Reviews candidate data and initiates Student Success Plans for candidates who are not meeting program milestones or mastering the FEAPs, PECs, UCC, and Elementary Education K-6 standards.

Advises all apprentices.

Conducts Florida Clinical Education Training twice a year for potential cooperating teachers.

Maintains MOU agreements for the apprenticeship program.

Trains, supports, and evaluates adjunct faculty teaching in the apprenticeship program.

Works collaboratively with school districts to facilitate placement in the field that adheres to state statutes and policies.

Maintains records of completers' job placements and facilitates completer and employer surveys.

Minimum Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

Knowledge and understanding of the Florida Standards, FEAPs, PECs, UCC, and Elementary Education K-6. Ability to present information in a coherent manner and the ability to fairly evaluate student retention of that information. Computer literate.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must hold a Master's degree and completed 18 graduate credit hours in the field. Must hold a Florida Professional Teacher Certificate.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate degree in the field. Florida Professional Teacher Certificate in the subject area Elementary Education K-6.
