FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

The Department of Social Work at the College of Staten Island (CSI) invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2025. We seek applicants who specialize in the area of disability studies and social work.

Disability is broadly defined to include brain injury, chronic health, cognitive, developmental, intellectual, neurological, psychiatric, physical, sensory, substance use disorder (SUD), and other impairments. Candidates with expertise in psychiatric disabilities are especially encouraged to apply.

The Social Work Department embodies the College's commitment to educational excellence through scholarship, service, and teaching. Responsibilities include assistance in coordination of the undergraduate and graduate direct practice/clinical sequence, curriculum development, and advisement.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The College of Staten Island (CSI) is a City University of New York (CUNY) senior College organized around two academic divisions and three schools, with over 10,000 students. CSI offers a broad range of academic programs in the liberal arts and sciences, and in several professional areas.

The College awards associate's, bachelor's, master's and clinical doctoral degrees, and in collaboration with The CUNY Graduate Center, numerous PhD degrees. CSI's internationally recognized faculty passionately engage in scholarly and artistic activities, and together with a strong professional staff, lead students through transformational learning experiences both inside and outside of the classroom. The College is situated on a 204-acre site, has recently incorporated a residential component, and is currently engaging in capital expansion.

It is a hub of intellectual and artistic activity and a community partner and source of economic impact and job creation for the greater Staten Island area. We serve a diverse student population from all five NYC boroughs and beyond. The Staten Island Ferry to Manhattan is free.

Staten Island is also accessible from Manhattan and Brooklyn via MTA express and limited-stop buses. The Social Work Department, housed within the School of Health Sciences, has a diverse faculty who publish in the areas of disability studies both in the U.S. and internationally, including alcohol and drug problems, healthcare for children and adults with disabilities, and the social inclusion of children with developmental disabilities. We also study feminist theory, critical multiculturalism, restorative justice, and gerontology.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Preferred Qualification include:

  • Ph.D. in Social Work or a closely related field by start date.

  • MSW from a CSWE accredited program.

  • Three years of post MSW social work practice experience.

  • Clinical Social Work license in NY or immediate eligibility for NY LCSW.

  • Current research in some psychiatric disabilities and Social Work.

  • History of, or strong potential for publications in peer reviewed journals.

  • Potential for external support for scholarship.

COMPENSATION

$82,928 - $90,375
