Description

Iona University's Occupational Therapy (OT) graduate program seeks a full-time, 11-month, tenure track assistant professor with expertise in pediatric and/or mental health OT practice who will contribute to the continued development of this graduate program and the Occupational Therapy Department located at the newly renovated Bronxville campus, home to the New York-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Science. The faculty member will be responsible for delivering high quality learning experiences and education for graduate OT students. The faculty member will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, establish a productive scholarship agenda, have a record of service to the School/University, and work collaboratively with colleagues in the department and across the university. Teaching responsibilities may include courses in the foundations of occupational therapy, mental health or pediatric OT practice, evidence-based practice, research/community development and public policy coursework.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide student-centered learning environment with teaching responsibilities including in person academic instruction with virtual supplementary course delivery as needed, student advisement for academic and professional development.

  • Create an engaging, challenging and evidence-based class, lab, community, and virtual learning environments that promote the skill development of occupational therapy students.

  • Collect and apply learning assessment information to improve teaching and curriculum.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to meet program, school, and institutional goals.

  • Actively engage in scholarship to advance knowledge and develops and implements a scholarship plan/faculty development plan as required by ACOTE accreditation standards and Iona University.

  • Disseminate scholarly work consistent with University policies and accreditation expectations.

  • Remain current with clinical practice and evidence that support content area expertise and professional growth.

  • Engage in department, school, and university-wide committee work including program evaluation and accreditation

  • Participate in recruitment, retention, and admissions activities program and student advisement for career and professional development.

  • Support and participate in shared governance and curricular planning and development.

  • Actively participate in occupational therapy and inter-professional associations and activities.

  • Serve as department liaison in community and/or professional activities.

  • Demonstrate professionalism and ethical behavior.

  • Fulfill other duties and responsibilities as requested by the Program Director and the Dean, New York-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences.

  • Demonstrates the ability to fully understand and respect the culture of Iona University, its mission and the heritage of the Christian Brothers, as well as the ability to establish strong collaborative relationships with students, faculty and staff and community members.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • PhD in occupational therapy or a related discipline OR a Post-professional clinical doctorate with demonstrated clinical expertise awarded by an institution that is accredited by a regional accrediting body recognized by the US Department of Education (USDE).

  • New York State License for Occupational Therapist or eligible for NYS OT License

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years documented experience as a practicing occupational therapist with an understanding of current and emerging trends in occupational therapy practice, as well as expertise in OT mental health and/or pediatric practice.

  • Prior teaching experience.

  • The candidate should be a passionate, self-directed, engaged academic with excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in scholarly activity

  • Innovative pedagogical and curricular development experience

  • Familiarity with interprofessional education (IPE)

  • Program assessment/evaluation experience
