Position Title: Assistant Principal of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Building: Highland Park High School

Reports To: Principal

Work Year: Twelve-Month Position

Deadline: May 3, 2024

Start Date: July 1, 2024

SUMMARY:

The Assistant Principal of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion position will also work closely with the school administrative team and staff to provide leadership and support for specific areas of focus which may include curriculum, instruction, and assessment, staff mentoring, professional development, instructional coaching, student services, MTSS, social-emotional learning, and a focus on school culture and climate. The Assistant Principal is responsible for the overall support, safety and welfare of students and staff.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Master degree in education or related field

  • Minimum 3 years of teaching experience or related experience in the field of education

  • Minimum 2 years of leadership experience in a high school setting

  • Successful completion or willingness to complete Illinois Teacher Evaluator Program

  • Advanced training and implementation experience in MTSS; Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; or equivalent experience

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with General Administrative (Type 75) or Principal endorsement

  • License registered with Lake County ROE

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversight of the MTSS Framework

  • Oversight of various Student Services Departments

  • Additional Academic Department oversight

  • Supervises classrooms, students, licensed and support staff

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises staff directly and indirectly in multiple disciplines utilizing the Danielson Framework

  • Supervises multiple academic departments, responsible for supporting/mentoring/evaluating department chairs

  • Develops and maintains student achievement data analysis model; coordinates systemic use of student achievement data

  • Serves as the leader of the MTSS programming

  • Supports the Principal in the Instructional Leadership Team

  • Provides training, consultation, and support to administrators, teachers, and school-based leadership teams to facilitate implementation of a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)

  • Provides support for school-wide curriculum & instruction, staff mentoring, professional development, instructional coaching, prevention and intervention services, social-emotional learning, and focus on school culture and climate

  • Provides support and leadership in preventative, restorative, and responsive practices within the counseling and the dean departments

  • Collaborates with the Assistant Superintendent of DEI in researching and implementing culturally responsive practices, conducting data analysis, reviewing policy, and supporting other associated district-wide initiatives

  • Collaborates with the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services in implementation of a preventative and responsive student services framework

  • Leads day-to-day and long-range review, assessment, and integration of diversity, equity, and inclusion practices into the classroom and school community

  • Partners with other administrators to recruit and retain faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds

  • Promotes organizational and interdisciplinary collaboration among staff

  • Works closely with the Directors of Activities and Athletics to support DEI initiatives

  • Attends after school, evening, and weekend events

  • Interprets, implements, enforces and develops regulations that are in compliance with Board policies, the High School handbook and state and federal law

  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all school and/or District matters

  • Supports the Principal at all times to ensure the Principal's success

  • Attains all goals as set by the Principal

  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may, from time to time, be assigned by the Principal or the Superintendent

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Possess effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Possess mathematical and analytical skills appropriate for the position.

  • The ability to work with students and adults in a positive manner.

  • The ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Possess common sense, problem-solving skills and reasoning ability to appropriately deal with day to day instruction and supervisory situations.

  • Possess a working knowledge of the federal and state special education regulations.

  • The ability to build and maintain the confidentiality of employee, student and other sensitive District information.

  • The ability to set goals and establish methods for achieving these goals.

  • The ability to work effectively with a diverse school and community population.
