TITLE: Assistant Principal of Assessment and Instruction - Portsmouth High School

WORK YEAR: 212 days plus call of the Superintendent; The work year shall consist of 212 days; i.e., the 184 days that school is in session plus twenty-eight (28) additional days as determined by the Principal subject to the review and approval of the Superintendent.

REPORTS TO: Principal

DIRECTLY SUPERVISES: Certified and Non-certified Staff, Other Professional Staff, Other resource and service personnel while functioning in the assigned school.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction and supervision of the Building Principal, in collaboration with the Assistant Principal of Teaching and Learning, the Assistant Principal of Assessment and Instruction will support students to ensure that they meet our academic expectations. The Assistant Principal of Assessment and Instruction will provide support for students and families that are consistent with the district's vision, mission, and strategic goals. The Assistant Principal of Assessment and Instruction will assist with test coordination, assessment, data analysis, intervention systems, intervention programming, instructional systems, and instructional programming.

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
1.Masters degree, equivalent or ability to obtain same by July 1, 2024 from an accredited college or university; education background
should include courses in educational administration, supervision, and child development.
2.A valid certificate in a K-12 field and/or K-6 or 7-12 with high school endorsement issued
by the Rhode Island Department of Education.
3.A valid certificate as a school principal/assistant school principal issued by the Rhode Island
Department of Education, or ability to obtain same by July 1, 2024.
4.At least 5 years of successful teaching experience (preferred)
5.Training or willingness to complete training in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support,
Restorative Practices, and the RIDE Educator Evaluation System
6.Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Committee may find appropriate
and acceptable.

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE REQUIRED:
Administrative Certificate required by the Rhode Island State Department of Education or ability to obtain same by July 1, 2024.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1.Serve as a key member of the MTSS academic target team and coordinate/lead staff development activities related to academic intervention implementation.
2.Collect, analyze, and interpret data and performance measures for dissemination to improve the delivery of academic interventions.
3.Coordinate interventions across grade levels during learning centers.
4.Assists teachers/teams in designing and implementing Tier II and Tier III academic interventions.
5.Member of the building leadership team
6.Member of the School Improvement Team
7.Assist in School Test Coordination
8.Assists in the development of a program for the evaluation and improvement of instruction
to ensure maximum educational benefits for student
9.Assists in ensuring the educational philosophy is consistent with best practices as well as
alignment with the district strategic plan.
10. Assists in the recruitment of staff
11.Assist with supervision of special events.
12. Serve as a primary evaluator
13. Perform other related duties as directed by the Principal.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1.Communicate and detect information at levels to be able to make presentations and exchange information in person and on the telephone
2.Express oneself so others will be able to clearly understand
3.Constantly operate a computer keyboard and manipulate paper
4.Detect, determine, perceive and identify documentation and reports, and to observe students
5.Able to meet multiple demands from several people and meet deadlines with severe time constraints
6.Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, in both indoor and outdoor environments, and regularly move and traverse in order to maintain a safe learning environment
7.Stamina to work irregular or extended hours to include a full day and then attending meetings or supervising evening events
8.Work at a desk, conference table, small student classroom table, or in meetings in various configurations
9.Position self to be able to retrieve items overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally
10.Move and transport moderately heavy objects

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

1.Work year is 212 workdays plus call of the Superintendent
2.Hours subject to responsibilities of position and may frequently require evening and weekend duty
3.Clear Criminal background check
4.Verification of health to perform job
5.Administrative contract with salary and benefits defined by the Portsmouth School Committee

EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated annually by the High School Principal in accordance with the
provisions and procedures established in the District Administrators Evaluation Guidelines.
