QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification Required:

  • Master's degree

  • Texas mid-management/Principal Certificate or other appropriate Principal Certificate

Technology Proficiency: Level 3

  • Required: Use of technology for instructional and campus program planning, communication, and professional development

Special Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • Knowledge of curriculum and related rules

  • Ability to support principal in evaluating and developing plans to strengthen the instructional program and teaching effectiveness.

  • Organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage budget and personnel.

Experience Required:

  • Three years as a successful classroom teacher

FUNCTION:

Directs and manages the instructional program and supervises operations and personnel at the campus level. Provides instructional leadership to ensure high standards of instructional services. Directs the implementation of district policies, instructional programs, and the operation of all campus activities.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & REQUIREMENTS:

Principal Standard 1: INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP- ENSURES EVERY STUDENT RECIEVES HIGH QUALITY INTRUCTION

  • Implements rigorous curricula and assessments aligned with state standards, including college and career readiness standards.

  • Monitors multiple forms of student data to inform instructional and intervention decisions, in contributing to maximize student achievement.

  • Helps develop high-quality instructional practices among teachers that improves student performance.

  • Ensures that effective instruction maximizes the growth of individual students, supports equity, and eliminates the achievement gap.

  • Assumes responsibilities for developing, implementing, coordinating, monitoring, and strengthening all aspects of instructional and campus programs.

  • Utilizes appropriate assessment and progress measures data to facilitate the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Campus Improvement Plan.

Principal Standard 2: HUMAN CAPITAL- RESPONSIBLE FOR ENSURING THERE ARE HIGH-QUALITY TEACHERS AND STAFF IN EVERY CLASSROOM THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL

  • Supports the selection, placement, and retention of effective teachers and staff.

  • Coaches and develops teachers by giving individualized feedback and appropriately aligned professional development opportunities.

  • Supports the implementation of collaborative structures and provides leadership opportunities for effective teachers and staff.

  • Conducts rigorous evaluations of all staff using multiple data sources.

  • Works cooperatively with the Department for Human Resources and the Athletics Office in the selection of campus staff and athletic coaches, respectively, in the selection of campus staff, and in closely monitoring the certification status of staff members when appropriate.

  • Defines expectations for staff regarding job performance and provides opportunities for growth and development.

  • Evaluates personnel in accordance with state and District policies.

  • Supervises and evaluates the performance of staff assigned to campus including, but not limited to teacher(s), counselor(s), librarian(s), instructional aides, clerical support staff, and custodians.

Principal Standard 3: EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP- MODELS A CONSISTENT FOCUS AND PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR IMPROVING STUDENT OUTCOMES

  • Solution-oriented, treats challenges as opportunities, and supports staff through changes.

  • Proactively seeks and acts on feedback, reflects on personal growth areas while seeking development opportunities, and accepts responsibility for mistakes

  • Tailors communication strategies to the audience and develops meaningful and positive relationships.

  • Demonstrates the moral imperative to educate all children and follow the procedures of the district by adhering to the Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.

  • Identifies and provides opportunities that encourages participation in staff development options to target school/district/employee goals identified through the goal-setting process.

Principal Standard 4: SCHOOL CULTURE- RESPONSIBLE FOR ESTABLISHING AND IMPLEMENTING A SHARED VISION AND CULTURE OF HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR ALL STAFF AND STUDENTS

  • Develops and implements a shared vision of high expectation for students and staff.

  • Establishes and monitors clear expectations for adult and student conduct and implements social and emotional supports for students.

  • Engages families and community members in student learning.

  • Creates an atmosphere of safety that encourages the social, emotional, and physical well-being of staff and students.

  • Uses a variety of student discipline techniques to meet the behavioral and academic needs of individual students.

  • Communicates and promotes high expectations for special programs staff and students' performance; provides recognition of excellence and achievement which promotes a positive image to the community as well as establishing and maintaining positive staff morale.

  • Fosters collegiality and collaboration among staff; mediates and facilitates resolution of conflicts; involves staff in planning/decision making.

  • Communicates to students, staff, and parents the established and equitable discipline management plan with guidelines for student conduct that have been developed collaboratively with staff.

  • Conducts conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning school and student issues.

  • Involves parents and community in a positive, proactive manner by articulating the school's mission through emphasizing and promoting two-way communication between the school and community.

  • Utilizes a variety of portals and opportunities for parent and community communication to advance the parent-school-community relationship.

Principal Standard 5: STRATEGIC OPERATIONS- RESPONSIBLE FOR IMPLEMENTING SYSTEMS THAT ALIGN WITH THE SCHOOL'S VISION AND MISSION TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF INSTRUCTION

  • Outlines and tracks clear goals, targets, and strategies aligned to a school vision that improves teacher effectiveness and student outcomes.

  • Implements daily schedules and a year-long calendar that plan for regular data-driven instruction cycles, give students access to diverse and rigorous course offerings, and build in time for staff professional development.

  • Aligns resources with the needs of the school and effectively monitors the impact on school goals.

  • Collaborates with district staff to implement and advocate for district policies that meet the needs of students and staff.

  • Supports principal guidance on the implementation and facilitation of an innovative instructional program that increases successful student outcomes.

  • Collaborates with feeder campus principals and staff to strengthen the alignment from K-12 in the implementation of instructional and campus programs.

  • Complies with district policies, and state/federal laws and regulations.

  • Manages all school facilities, requisitions, repairs as needed, and assist in supervising custodial staff.

  • Supports the Implementation of assigned programs within budget limits, maintains fiscal control, and accurately reports fiscal information.
