Assistant Principal
The assistant principal will spearhead our efforts to ensure high academic standards with a focus on the social-emotional needs of all students. This individual will be an expert of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, inclusive of technology integration, co- teaching strategies and differentiation to meet individual student needs. This individual will be an exceptional manager, motivating leader, and a strong relationship builder, who has demonstrated exceptional outcomes in a similarly mission-aligned school setting. We are looking for a leader that believes in equity and has the capacity to lead students, adults, and teams to audacious outcomes that begin to prepare students for college and career. The leader should have a keen instructional and school culture eye, and a toolbox to manage change, gain trust and work collaboratively with the school leadership team's vision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment
Works collaboratively with the building principal to assess current curriculum and instructional practices, identify resources to support academic, social-emotional and technology needs, and has a firm understanding of Google suite and its uses.
Foster connections between academic learning, the community, and the natural world
Organizes the work of teacher teams and creates ongoing opportunities for shared leadership regarding protocols, team leader roles, and collaborative strategies.
Develop and monitor schoolwide assessment systems for multiple academic areas that includes pre assessments, and interim assessments. Has the ability to analyze data and connect it to instructional next steps that move adult practice and student outcomes.
Staff Development
Assist in creating a professional community that focuses on instruction and assessment as the primary vehicles for improving student achievement and school culture.
Leads colleagues in their professional growth through modeling effective practices, articulating connections between instructional choices and student outcomes, coaching, observing instruction, and providing actionable feedback.
Motivate teachers to continue to develop their content knowledge and instructional repertoire, and to provide the resources needed for them to do so.
School Culture
Assist in building a school culture that evidences high expectations for courtesy, respect, compassion and an intellectually engaged environment for both students and adults.
Ensure a safe, supportive, and productive environment for students, staff and families.
Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
Model effective instructional practices in staff meetings, professional development sessions and team meetings.
Cultivate strong partnerships with community organizations and regional/national partners.
Oversee extra-curricular activities and after school programs.
Cultivate strong partnerships with community organizations and regional/national partners.
Implement behavior/discipline modification plans for grade group cohorts in conjunction with the guidance counselor and other school personnel.
Other duties as determined by the principal.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
A Master's Degree in Education, New York State Certification SAS or SBL, and a minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching and/or two years of previous experience in leadership
Experience with restorative practices, culturally responsive, and sustaining pedagogy, trauma informed practices, and have strong beliefs in social-emotional learning values
Bilingual English-Spanish preferred
