POSITION DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Provide assistance to the school principal in the evaluation and modification of the instructional programs offered by the school; support the management of school, human and financial resources, buildings, grounds and equipment; establish effective relationship with students, parents, staff, community groups and District Office support staff; support district-wide goals and initiatives; responsible for supporting the principal in providing a safe and secure learning environment for students and staff; implement and enforce school board policies, administrative rules, and regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Completed at least five years of successful teaching experience
Worked in public education within the last three years
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, BONDING, AND/OR TESTING REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California Administrative Credential
Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
Valid California Drivers License
Tuberculin Clearance
First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificates
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of methods to evaluate employee performance
Possess communication skills that lead to cooperation, respect and advancement of knowledge
Knowledge of the developmental tasks of childhood and adolescence
Knowledge of the curriculum and assessment techniques of schools
Knowledge of alternative educational programs for students
Basic understanding of legal issues related to public education
Demonstrated ability to manage conflict through quality decision-making and effective problem solving

Ability to use District IT systems to perform routine tasks such as: performance management, assessments, accessing financial reports, managing school staffing through master schedule development, and budget information

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the principal in defining the school's mission and communicating goals and expectations of the total school program
Work cooperatively and interact positively with students, staff and community exercising courtesy, discretion, and self-control
Create a productive work climate by gaining the cooperation of staff and students
Communicate effectively with students, staff, administrative and supervisory personnel, parents, and community
Assist in determining and implementing school organization, student placement, evaluation, and services and programs to meet the needs of individual students
Develop the master schedule and provide for changes in schedules and programs that meet the needs of students
Adhere to and enforce board policy, school guidelines, administrative directives, employee contracts, and district standards
Provide instructional leadership and supervision in concert with the principal, for the implementation of the curriculum
Assist the principal in monitoring and assessing student achievement using multiple sources of data collection and analysis as requested by the principal by supporting the process of continuous school improvement
Assist the principal in supervising and evaluating the effectiveness of all school-based personnel
Coordinate and supervise student activities, special events and athletics and assist in the implementation of school wide supervision plans that establish and maintain a safe and orderly environment
Work with and assist faculty in the development of effective classroom discipline and organization
Assist in the development, administration and communication of policies dealing with discipline, conduct, and attendance to students, staff, and parents
Administer, coordinate and enforce school discipline and conduct guidelines while maintaining necessary discipline records
Write reports relative to conferences, suspensions, expulsion and court reports
Serve as liaison in coordinating supportive services and other social agencies to meet student and family needs
Support the development, implementation and monitoring of each student's IEP, as applicable, while assisting the principal with on-going compliance of special education regulations (state and federal), including the implementation of due process procedures
Assume responsibility for maintaining student attendance procedures
Assist the principal with responsibility for the business management function of local school finances
Assist in the care and management of the building and grounds, furniture, equipment, apparatus, books, and supplies
Work with the principal in the preparation of a variety of documents such as student handbooks and course guides
Assist in the selection and mentoring of staff
Supervise and evaluate certificated and paraprofessional staff as assigned
Serve as a mandated reporter for suspected child abuse
Plan and engage in professional activities which contribute to leadership development
Perform all other duties as assigned
