SUMMARY:

The Assistant Principal assists the middle/senior high school principal in promoting the educational well-being of each student in the school. The Assistant Principal provides supervision, resolves discipline problems, and ensures the discipline policy is administered in a fair and consistent manner. The Assistant Principal will work with the building principal to instill a climate conducive to student learning, emphasizing students exhibiting mutual respect and ensuring a safe learning environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.The Assistant Principal assists the principal in the overall administration of the school.

2.The Assistant Principal will follow appropriate due process procedures, ensure proper documentation, and resolve discipline issues, including collaborating with the staff, parents, and outside agencies, to ensure that the discipline policies are administered in a fair and just manner to provide an optimum learning environment.

3.The Assistant Principal distributes and disaggregates the collection of data (Failure Rates, Testing, Grad Rates, Diplomas)

4.The Assistant Principal supervises the development, implementation, distribution, and orientation of the student handbooks to ensure that the students are aware of the policies and procedures of the middle/senior high school and district.

5.The Assistant Principal engages in research on discipline and student welfare by collaborating with parents, faculty, counselors, support service personnel, and students. Additionally, they hold discussions with other school districts to gather insights. The purpose of these efforts is to formulate recommendations for revising the discipline policy and procedures, which are then presented to the middle/senior high school principal.

6.The Assistant Principal develops and maintains a liaison with community and governmental agencies in regard to problems relating to drug and alcohol abuse, truancy, homelessness, mental health initiatives, and other social and disciplinary issues.

7.Assist with the dissemination of information regarding school and district programs, policies, and procedures to keep the various stakeholders aware of the school's activities.

8.The Assistant Principal assists with middle/senior high school programming.

9.The Assistant Principal assists in the development and monitoring of the Response to Intervention (RTI) program for grades 6-12.



  1. Assist in the supervision of middle/senior high school students during student arrival, throughout the school day, during student departure, and as needed for co-curricular and extracurricular programs held outside the regular school day.

  2. The Assistant Principal assists in securing, administering, supervising, and preparing reports for various state, federal, and foundation grants.

  3. The Assistant Principal serves as the Corporation Test Coordinator K-12, including completing all IDOE requirements for the position, offering training when needed for staff, and maintaining appropriate security and records for testing

  4. The Assistant Principal serves as the 6-12 Special Needs Coordinator, including scheduling move-in and initial case conferences, participating in case conferences, acting as a liaison between Joint Services for referrals and scheduling needs, and maintaining master lists of students and services.

  5. The Assistant Principal completes observations of staff as assigned.

  6. The Assistant Principal performs other tasks as directed by the middle/senior high school principal and the Superintendent.


Sick Leave.

The Assistant Principal

  • Middle/Senior High School shall have available (10) ten paid days for personal illness or for an illness of a member of the Assistant Principal's family for the first year of the Contract and seven (7) days for each subsequent year of the Contract. The Assistant Principal

  • Middle/Senior High School, shall notify her office staff of her absence due to illness and shall, upon her return to work, provide written notice to the Superintendent's Office on the form provided. Sick leave days shall accumulate from year to year if unused but shall not accumulate to exceed ninety (90) sick leave days.

Personal Leave.

The Assistant Principal

  • Middle/Senior High School shall be entitled to three (3) days of leave to conduct personal business for each subsequent year of the Contract. Unused personal leave days shall accumulate to a total of six (6) days. Personal leave days not used during the year and accumulated beyond the six (6) days shall be added to accumulated sick leave thereafter to the maximum allowed. The Assistant Principal

  • Middle/Senior High School shall provide written notice to the Superintendent's Office prior to her use of her personal days. Personal leave shall not be taken immediately before or after a school vacation identified in the school's 180-day district calendar period without the Superintendent's written approval.

Other Leave.

The Assistant Principal

  • Middle/Senior High School shall be entitled to paid or unpaid leave in a circumstance other than sick leave in which paid, or unpaid leave is required by state or federal law or permitted by the Board for its certified employees.

Health, Life, and Long-Term Disability Insurance.

New employees will be insured at the beginning of the first day of the month following employment. In cases wherein an Assistant Principal

  • Middle/Senior High School resigns during the school year, his/her insurance will be dropped at the end of the month in which employment was severed.

Health Insurance

The Board's contribution to the cost of the administrator's health insurance premiums shall be equal to the Board's contribution to teacher health insurance rounded to the next highest whole dollar for either a single or family plan. The administrator shall pay not less than one (1) dollar per year for the health insurance coverage she elects.

Life Insurance

The Board will provide a $50,000.00 term life insurance policy with an additional $50,000.00 accidental death and dismemberment provision for the Assistant Principal

  • Middle/Senior High School. The Board's share of the cost of this policy will be 100% less $1.00.

Group Income Protection Plan

The Board will provide a group income protection plan for the Assistant Principal-Middle/Senior High School in case of a qualifying disability. The plan requires a (90) ninety-day waiting period and a qualifying condition and shall provide no less than 66% of income. The Board's share of the cost of this policy will be 100% less than $1.00.

ISTRF Employee Contribution.

In addition to the other considerations provided to the Assistant Principal

  • Middle/Senior High School by this paragraph of this Contract, the Rossville Consolidated School District shall make the employee's and the District's contribution to the Indiana State Teachers Retirement Fund.

Section 125

The benefits provided to administrators by Section 125 of the Revenue Act of 1978, both Generation I and Generation II, shall be made available. The school district will pay any start-up cost, the annual fee (if charged), and the monthly administrative fee, which will be paid by the participating Assistant Principal of middle/ Senior High School.

403(b) Plan

The Board shall provide the Assistant Principal-Middle/Senior High School-with the opportunity to participate in a voluntary tax-sheltered 403(b) program, subject to Internal Revenue Service regulations. Except for changes required by the IRS or other regulatory entity, changes to the plan document or the adoption agreement shall be made only upon the recommendation of a committee comprised of three (3) members appointed by the Board and three (3) teachers appointed by the association; all members of the committee must be current plan participants.

Business and Professional Expenses.

The Board shall reimburse the Assistant Principal

  • Middle/Senior High School for appropriate business and professional expenses approved in advance by the Superintendent.
