Building Principal POSITION SUMMARY: This position functions to provide assistance to the principal on all assigned activities of the school site and to assume complete charge in the absence of the principal. Under the supervision of the principal, supervise instruction in assigned subjects; supervise selected extracurricular activities; provide individual assistance to students with academic or behavioral problems; and perform related work, as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The list of Essential Functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented. Assist the Principal in leading a diverse staff, student body, and the community in development and implementation of building-level goals focused on the improvement of student learning.

Assist the Principal in leading staff in the development and implementation of District and building-level goals relating to cultural competency and student learning.

Assist the Principal in establishing a school climate that promotes equal opportunities for all students, good conduct, and positive attitudes and values, and accept responsibility for the attendance, conduct, health, and safety of students. Assist the Principal in supervising and evaluating the performance of all assigned personnel and engage staff in the development of professional growth activities designed to support individual school/District goals and programs in order to improve student learning.

Assist the Principal in the development, ongoing improvement, and implementation of the District and school curricular program. Assist the Principal in overseeing the school's extracurricular program. Assist the Principal in supervising the maintenance and operation of the building, grounds, and property assigned to the building.

Provide for effective staff communication; collaborate and resolve conflicts with others. Assist the Principal in working cooperatively with other administrators; advise supervisors and other appropriate District administrators of progress, problems, and other information regarding the school's program. Assist the Principal in providing leadership, supervision, and evaluation of the instructional program for the school.

Assist the Principal in providing and/or facilitating training of staff with regard to the most effective practices which lead to higher student achievement regardless of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or prior academic achievement. Analyze and interpret school-level data; work with the administrative staff to develop School Improvement Plans that contain strategies to improve student learning. Interpret and implement Board policies and administrative regulations.

Establish positive relationships with persons regardless of race, gender, physical limitation, sexual orientation, or religious belief, with an active commitment to equal opportunity for all students and staff. Foster an environment that focuses on quality results while motivating, developing, and supporting staff, encouraging continuous improvement, and working effectively as a member of a team. Possess a sense of vision and project that sense, involve others in accomplishing goals and solving problems, and interact with diverse groups successfully.

Plan, schedule, and allocate resources appropriately; reach logical conclusions and make high-quality decisions using appropriate decision-making processes; accept responsibility for actions and consequences. Utilize computer technologies to enhance instruction and to manage building functions. Exercise good judgment, insight, self-awareness, integrity, and cultural responsiveness when interacting with employees, students, and patrons.

Continue one's own lifelong learning, develop talent and leadership skills in others, provide critical feedback, and receive critical feedback in order to maintain high standards for one's self and one's school. Make clear, persuasive presentations to diverse groups as needed. Represent the school in the community through business partnerships and activities.

Utilize knowledge of a variety of instructional techniques to assist in the improvement of instructional programs. Assist the principal with leading the improvement of student learning, as evidenced by the improvement of school-based and/or District-based data points. Lead, supervise, and evaluate staff, and work effectively with teachers to improve instruction.

Perform other tasks as assigned. ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a variety of clienteles.

Physical stamina to handle challenging work schedule. Respect for administrators, students, teachers, parents, and support staff. Ability to exercise sound judgment on sensitive issues.

Ability to work effectively with all stakeholders. Calm demeanor for handling stressful situations. Ability to effectively resolve conflict between various stakeholders with diverse backgrounds and needs.

Ability to accomplish tasks that are often interrupted by persons with special and/or immediate needs.

Ability to read, analyze, and determine the appropriate course of action based on various types of written and verbal information. Must possess excellent problem-solving, management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Must possess knowledge of special education. BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree with a major in educational administration required (Educational Specialist or Doctorate preferred). Must hold a current and appropriate Missouri principal certificate.

At least five (5) years successful teaching experience preferred. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work setting involves performance in an environment with various levels of staff to supervise and the accomplishment of tasks that are often interrupted by persons with special and/or immediate needs.

The employee must be able to regularly work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, and utilize manual dexterity. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, the ability to adjust focus, and depth perception.
