West Contra Costa Unified School District HIGH SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL Primary Function Assists the Principal with the planning, organization, and administration of the school and the educational program. Responsibilities such as curriculum development, instructional program leadership, guidance program, helping students adjust to high school life, supervision, community relations, student activities, and/or in-service training may be assigned.

Directly Responsible to Principal Supervision Supervises and evaluates assigned certificated and classified staff. Major Responsibilities May be assigned any of the following duties: 1.

Assists the Principal in determining policy regarding the internal administration of the school. 2.

Assists the Principal with the overall maintenance and operation of the school plant. 3. Oversees the development of the safety plan which includes the assignment of site supervisors, student supervisors, and school policy officers. 4.

Assists the Principal with resolving all problems related to classroom or school discipline situations and establishing standards of conduct. 5.

Assists the Principal in matters pertaining to public relations. Participates as liaison to community and district-wide activities as assigned. 6. Assists the Principal with staff administration including hiring, supervision and evaluation of certificated and classified personnel. 7.

Participates in the local school attendance team, S.A.R.T.; resolves conflicts regarding all matters related to attendance. 8. Coordinates the student activity program with the academic program of the school including the monitoring of the Eligibility Standards for Student Activity Participation. 9. Monitors student progress towards graduation including participation in the Local Review Board. 10.

Organizes and supervises all student government, class activities, and athletic and other events. Night supervision will be a major responsibility. 11. Develops the yearly school activity calendar and prepares daily, weekly, and monthly bulletins.

Supervises distribution of all district communications to parents and students. 12.

Supervises the processing of student receipts and accounts which includes the direct supervision of the cashier. 13. Monitors budgets assigned by the Principal. 14.

Monitors transportation of all student activities or study trips. 15. Coordinates the use of school facilities. 16. Supervises the identification procedures of students including the lunch program and technology policy. 17.

Organizes and is responsible for all arrangements for commencement. 18. Attends district and school meetings as assigned. 19. Develops the master program, arranges for the scheduling of students, and provides articulation with feeder schools. 20.

Supervises the instructional program through teacher conferences, classroom visitations, lesson plan review, and teacher evaluation. 21. Supervises ancillary personnel: student teachers, instructional assistants, adult volunteers, tutors, teacher aides, and itinerant staff. 22. Coordinates the counseling and guidance and testing program.

Major Responsibilities (continued) 23. Implements all steps of report card marking and processing. 24. Orders textbooks, instructional materials, and supplies and forms. 25.

Acts as a member of Secondary Curriculum Committee, as coordinator of an assigned subject area district committee, and as a member of various special district study committees. 26. Develops and participates in programs for in-service training and professional conferences. 27. Oversees student accounting: attendance, permits, and identification of special student populations, and other reports. 28.

Provides leadership in the development and revision of curriculum and courses of study through cooperative interaction with departments and programs. 29. Orients and assists new teachers, coordinating with new teacher support programs. 30. Assists with student welfare including medical, dental, nutritional, clothing and other outreach programs. 31.

Supervises, assigns and assists substitute teachers. 32. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge and Skills: 1.

Ability to demonstrate through training and experience the qualities of leadership essential to the successful administration of a high school. 2. Knowledge of the social, emotional, personal, and physical development of adolescents. 3. Knowledge of effective high school teaching strategies, curricular programs and materials including the curricular uses of technology. 4.

Ability to use the current technology in the performance of their duties. Education, Training and Experience: 1. Post graduate work in school administration, curriculum and instruction, or a related field. 2.

Successful experience as a classroom teacher. 3. Progressively responsible experience in providing leadership in a school or district setting. 4. Shall hold an appropriate school administrative credential. Approved by the Personnel Services Division Adopted by the Board of Education, June 7, 2000
