SUBJECT: ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL - CLARK STREET SCHOOL

Description of the position or the program:
We are seeking a highly motivated individual that is committed to working with others to provide all students with high-quality teaching and learning, and the space and opportunities to grow and develop socio-emotionally. The ideal candidate should have experience as an Assistant Principal at the elementary level serving students of diverse needs and backgrounds. They should intentionally and effectively build strong relationships with students, teachers/staff, and families. The candidate should have a strong understanding of race and equity as it pertains to education, and should have proficiency in Culturally Responsive Instruction. They should be highly organized, reflective and see themselves as a lifelong learner. Additionally, our future Assistant Principal should be an excellent communicator (both as a listener and as a presenter of information), and a self-starter willing to take initiative on various improvement projects as needed. Flexibility and ability to prioritize tasks are also important attributes in an ideal candidate.
Working well as part of a team is critical as the job will require close and effective collaboration with various teams. The Assistant Principal will be joining a high functioning Administrative Team composed of the Principal, Instructional Coach and School Counselor, as well as our school-wide Instructional Leadership Team (ILT).
The following skills/experience are highly recommended:
Experience as a classroom teacher in grades K-6
Experience working with students with disabilities and language learners
Experience with facilitating collaborative teams such as Student Support Team, 504 Team, PBIS Team, Grade-level PLCs, etc
Experience supporting instructional improvement in the area of literacy
Fluency in Spanish or one of the other high frequency languages in WPS
District Requirements:
This position is accountable for assisting the principal with the administration and the efficient operation of all aspects of the elementary school facility consistent with sound educational principles and philosophy of education which strongly emphasizes student learning and success. This individual is responsible for assuming total responsibility in the absence of the principal. The assistant principal will contribute to the evaluation process of all staff.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Responsible for supporting and monitoring staff to use effective classroom techniques which enhance the learning process.
2.Responsible for supporting and monitoring staff to use techniques which test/confirm individual student strengths and weaknesses, including referral for services when appropriate.
3.Responsible for supporting and monitoring staff to use effective techniques of classroom management/discipline and behavior.
4.Responsible for supporting and monitoring staff in the organizing, directing and implementing of educational programs which result in an atmosphere conducive to positive learning.
5.Responsible for assisting in the professional development and evaluation of building personnel.
6.Responsible for implementing/expanding community involvement that would serve to expand, enhance, and enrich the educational environment.
7.Responsible for assisting in the development of the school's budget proposals.
8.Responsible for assisting the principal in organizing and running the school council.
9.Responsible for assuring equal educational opportunity to all individuals regardless of race, color, gender, age, marital status, religion, gender identity, natural origin, sexual orientation, homelessness, or disability.
10.Performance of other job-related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Licensure as an Elementary School Principal/Assistant Principal PreK-6 from the Massachusetts Department of Education
2.SEI endorsement.
3.A minimum of a Master's Degree in an appropriate field.
4.A minimum of three years teaching experience.
5.Working knowledge of Massachusetts public education, administration/supervision, and curriculum development.
6.Strong written and verbal skills for communicating with parents, students, teachers, administrators, community representatives, and School Committee.
7.Knowledgeable of budget preparation and line-item expenditure process.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Ability to speak Spanish, Vietnamese, Albanian, Portuguese or an African language
2.Demonstrated experience supporting students with special needs
3.Demonstrated experience with second language acquisition
WORK YEAR: Pupil session days, plus four (4) professional development days
SALARY: Based on the Appropriate Lane and Step on the Non Teaching Elementary Assistant Prinicpals Salary Schedule
