The Department of Computer Science at Texas State University (TXST) invites applicants for multiple Assistant/Associate Professor of Instruction positions to start as early as the Fall 2024 semester. We are seeking candidates to teach a variety of courses primarily at the undergraduate/graduate level and participate in institutional service. The position is a nine-month, nontenure line faculty appointment.

Applications are invited for teaching positions at the TXST Round Rock TX campus, the TXST San Marcos TX campus, or the Collin College Technical Campus in Allen, TX.

Successful candidates are expected to do the following:

1.Teach 4 sections of 2 to 3 undergraduate courses per semester,

2.Participate in institutional and professional service

3.Exhibit a collaborative attitude that feeds into the culture of cooperation and teamwork in the Computer Science Department.

This nontenure line faculty position is primarily for teaching. Candidates are not expected to engage in research, external funding, or publications.

The department offers the following degree programs: Bachelor of Science (BS) in computer science, Bachelor of Arts in computer science, Master of Science in computer science, Master of Arts in computer science, and Doctor of Philosophy in computer science. The BS degree is ABET accredited.

The department enjoys a friendly atmosphere and is housed in a recently renovated building equipped with the latest technology. The San Marcos campus is in the Texas Hill Country and is only 30 minutes from Austin and 45 minutes from San Antonio, both of which have international airports and are home to some of the largest IT companies.

Texas State University Round Rock campus is in one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation. Providing exceptional academic programs, student academics support services and training opportunities to students and the community in Round Rock, North Austin, and Williamson County.

The Collin College Technical campus is a modern educational institution located in the vibrant city of Allen, Texas. Allen is a thriving suburb of Dallas, known for its excellent schools, community, and strong economic growth. With its family-friendly atmosphere and easy access to the amenities of the larger Dallas and Fort Worth metroplex, Allen offers an attractive balance of suburban comfort and urban convenience.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and qualifications.

All positions are subject to availability of funds.

Required Qualifications

For the Assistant Professor of Instruction Rank:

  • Master's degree in computer science or a closely related field by the start of employment.

  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness in US universities.

  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills.

In addition, for the Associate Professor of Instruction rank:

  • Ph.D. degree in computer science or a closely related field.

  • At least five years of teaching experience or at least 10 years' experience in industry working as a senior/lead scientist or engineer.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications for Assistant Professor of Instruction

  • Ph.D. degree in computer science or a closely related field.

  • Experience teaching both lower- and upper-level computer science courses.

  • Demonstrates current and contemporary competence in teaching content area

Preferred qualifications for Associate Professor of Instruction

  • Experience teaching both lower- and upper-level computer science courses.

  • Demonstrates current and contemporary competence in teaching content area

  • University service experience.

  • Exhibits the potential for increased leadership in teaching and instructional activities
