Job Description
Tenure-track, online/remote position, provides Counselor Education for online graduate students. Social justice advocacy, anti-racist literature, and cultural competency are strong tenets of the Counselor Education Program. Teaches and mentors students from diverse backgrounds. Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion required.
Major responsibilities include:
Instruction of master's level courses in online formats;
Curriculum and program development;
Supervision of counseling interns;
Student advisement
Cooperative work with agencies, schools, and the larger regional community;
Promotion of an active research and publication agenda;
Service at the department, school and university levels.
Builds and strengthens collaborative partnerships within and outside of the University. Active involvement in state, regional, and/or national professional associations strongly encouraged.
Examples of Duties
The faculty member will teach courses in accordance with the schedule of classes and following the approved course descriptions and curricular guidelines established by the Faculty and approved by the Dean and the Provost.
Non-teaching assignments will include instructional development; academic advising and assisting students; participating in Departmental and University-wide activities; serving on committees and task forces; and other appropriate responsibilities as described in the Faculty Status and Welfare Handbook.
Schedule: This is a 12 month appointed faculty position as governed by the Faculty Status and Welfare Handbook. Days, occasional evening or weekend hours as required.
Instructional:
Teaching, including the preparation of course syllabi and classes, the preparation and grading of examinations, and the clinical supervision of students.
The maximum instructional load for teaching faculty during the academic year is:
Nine (9) credit hours in each of the fall, spring, and summer semesters for Tenure-Track Graduate Faculty
Academic Advising:
Meet with students as needed by appointment.
Advise and assist students during the ongoing registration process.
Maintain general knowledge of degree requirements, programs and course transfer information.
Practicum and internship coordination preferred.
Institutional Service:
Participation in activities (usually through committee work) designed to advance the mission and quality of the University, School, and Departmental programs. Assignments to routine committee work will be made in consideration of other demands placed on the faculty member by the University.
Attendance at Department, School, and general Faculty and University meetings including commencements, convocations, and other official University exercises.
Professional Growth and Development:
Maintain a program of personal and professional development appropriate for areas of responsibility.
Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge and competence in the appropriate academic disciplines.
Research, publication, and professional activity within one's field of specialization or otherwise directed towards the University's mission.
Additional Responsibilities:
Qualifications
Doctorate in Counselor Education required
Graduates of CACREP-accredited programs preferred
Minimum two years' experience as a licensed mental health counselor or school counselor required.
Minimum one year of university teaching experience, particularly with online formats, required.
School counseling certification and/or clinical mental health counseling licensure.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Commitment to social justice and experience working with diverse populations.
Working knowledge and experience with multicultural counseling, culturally-relevant pedagogy and best practices
Sensitivity to the realities and challenges encountered by diverse individuals and populations.
Familiarity with national and professional accreditation standards and processes, as well as assessment of student learning and program outcomes.
Scholarly interests or expertise (i.e., quantitative or qualitative research, educational technology, cultural competence, restorative justice, adult learning, human development, cognition, leadership) preferred.
