Assistant or Associate Director of Admissions

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has an opening in the Enrollment Management Department for an Assistant or Associate Director of Admissions. The ideal candidate will be committed to enriching the lives of students and building a strong community of scholars on campus.

The Assistant or Associate Director of Admissions will evaluate credentials submitted by applicants to determine whether a student exhibits potential for success at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and routinely make admissions decisions. These selections formulate the basis for the incoming first-year class every year and are made in light of furthering the academic standards and quality of the institute.

Additionally, the position will create and implement a marketing plan that assists the institute in successfully achieving its educational mission and be responsible for the implementation of designated efforts. The position will perform public relations services by representing Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology at high schools, college night programs, conferences and other events as required; serve as guest speaker, discussing a variety of higher education topics including but not limited to the college search process, financial aid issues, scholarship services, etc., to a variety of constituents, including but not limited to professional organizations, students, and parents.

The Assistant or Associate Director of Admissions will serve the institute as the primary point of contact, promoting and representing the interests of both Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and its customers by providing counsel for prospective students and parents regarding academic programs of study, program requirements and scholarship programs; employ personalized communication techniques when messaging with prospective students, parents and other constituents through written and electronic means; conduct inquiries into concerns on behalf of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and/or prospective students, parents, and other constituents who may encounter situations during their experience with the institute and determine the resolutions of such issues. Significant matters may include, but are not limited to the following: financial aid issues, academic program issues, admission credentials, and residence life/housing.

The Assistant or Associate Director of Admissions will participate in short range departmental planning by offering recommendations for functions and goals; anticipate and investigate competitive products and services and make recommendations for distinguishing Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology from the competitive marketplace; participate in development of institute publications, student handbooks, and etc., outlining academic services and institute policies; participate in development and implementation of campus recruitment programs; make large and small group presentations to prospective students regarding programs; facilitate prospective student campus visits and interviews; and, assist with the planning, training, and managing of student employees.

In addition, the Associate Director will exercise professional judgment in reviewing, evaluating, and recommending applicants for admission using established guidelines and consult with the Dean of Admission when reviewing more complex applications; lead marketing and recruitment initiatives meant to enhance efforts in enrolling Rose-Hulman's first-year class; be responsible for one or several areas of student admissions; interface regularly with the Dean of Admissions on all matters of identified importance; provide substantive information on admissions requirements, school programs and curricula, financial aid, housing, and student career/employment opportunities; assist the Dean of Admissions in planning the recruitment policies and strategies for all the programs offered by the college or university; and may lead the planning, training, and managing of student employees.

Qualified candidates as the Assistant Director will have a bachelor's degree and two to three years of college admissions experience. Must have knowledge of database, spreadsheet, and word processing (Microsoft Office) software; strong analytical and project/process management skills, excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; the ability to speak and interact effectively with alumni, students, faculty, staff and prospective students and their families from many cultural and socio-economic backgrounds; ability to read and interpret documents such as school transcripts and procedures manuals; and able to write routine reports and correspondence.

Preferred candidates as the Assistant Director will have a master's degree; three years of college admissions experience in a private institution; experience with various types of social media; knowledge of engineering is desired.

Qualified candidates as the Associate Director will have a bachelor's degree and four to five years of college admissions experience. Must have strong analytical and project/process management skills; knowledge of database, spreadsheet, and word processing (Microsoft Office) software; excellent oral, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to speak and interact effectively with alumni, students, faculty, staff, and prospective students and their families from many cultural and socio-economic backgrounds; able to read and interpret documents such as school transcripts and procedures manuals and the have ability to write routine reports and correspondence; and able to travel which may include evenings and weekends.

Preferred candidates as the Associate Director will a master's degree; five years of college admissions experience in a private institution; experience with various types of social media; knowledge of engineering is desired.
