This position will work as part of the Law Career Development Office (LCDO) team to counsel and coach students and alumni in career planning, with a particular emphasis on the private sector and federal government. Provide programs relating to professional and talent development, job search strategies, resume preparation, interviewing skills, and networking in the diverse legal market and other professional career paths. Create and present careers services (career education and career strategy programs) panels and workshops, as well as manage LCDO external communications and publications.

Key Functions:

Student support:

Respond to employer and student inquiries. Counsel J.D. students, LL.M. students and alumni on a daily basis in all areas, with an emphasis on private sector.

Work with students on professional development including interviewing skills, work habits, appearance, judgment, etc.

Review resumes, cover letters, conduct mock interviews, and counsel on job search strategies.

Work with Diversity Director on review of diversity statements, promotion of diversity pipeline programs, and law firm diversity opportunities.

Monitor legal job market, communicate trends, data, and best practices to students and graduates.

Advise and coach students in securing federal government sector positions; promote federal government opportunities.

Programming:

Plan and implement the Practice Interview Program. Coordinate evening career education and networking events.

Create and present career services (career education and career strategy) programs, panels, and workshops, including job search strategy training and career development programs for students and/or recent graduates each semester on topics such as job search strategies, networking, creating effective resumes and cover letters, etc.

Prepare and present summer workshops/information sessions to prepare students for fall recruitment programs.

Create student resources such as Practice area Quick Guides and materials on networking, informational interviewing, as well as revising current resources as necessary to keep current with market trends and conditions.

Manage oversight of the fall recruitment program and spring recruitment program.

Coordinate law firm visit program.

Promotion of law firm sponsored networking and career development panels and trainings.

Plan federal government career-related programs.

Communications:

Develop LCDO's external communications, including drafting content for and distributing social media, newsletter, web content, etc. Collaborate with other UBalt School of Law Offices and Programs.

Help develop a communications strategy for the spring and fall recruitment programs for both employers and students. Create and distribute marketing materials for both employer and student audiences about the recruitment programs.

Promote other career services events to both students and alumni, and work with student groups to promote events and job opportunities.

Employer Relations:

Establish and nurture employer relations in the Baltimore and Washington, DC markets.

Provide critical market and employer information and analysis to LCDO administrators and support staff members; volunteer panelists/speakers for career programs; legal market news/articles.

Attend on-site employer visits for recruiting meetings with alumna/i.e., recruiters and hiring partners.

Administer employer/alumni relations programs (e.g., Law firm breakfast and lunch visits)

Required Education and Experience

Education: Juris Doctor (JD)

Experience: Three to five years of legal experience inclusive of providing presentations, interviewing and public speaking

Preferred Education and Experience

Experience: Demonstrated experience in legal recruiting and/or career development or related field in higher education. Teaching experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Excellent interpersonal, administrative and supervisory skills. Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to make presentations. Counseling and/or advising skills. Technological literacy including career services database software and on-line resources.
