Job Title Assistant, Moving and Set-up (Re-advertised) Job Description

The primary purpose of this position is to assist with the daily operations of the GTCC Surplus Supply. The assistant will work with the Moving and Set-up Worker for the receipt, storage, and distribution of over-weighted old and newly purchased materials, pick-up and delivery of surplus property via the pick-up truck or box truck, and storage items for Guilford Technical Community College. The individual will also support the Facilities Department as needed. The ideal candidate will be familiar with the operation of various equipment including box truck, pallet jack and forklift.

Mid Salary $37,599.12 - We offer a competitive salary package that will be determined based on the candidate's experience level and qualifications related to the job. Compensation will be commensurate with your level of experience. Duties/Functions

The individual in this position will perform a variety of tasks in the performance of routine equipment, furniture and other material moves to and from designated facilities areas. Moves also include room setup and arrangement of furniture associated with special events. All services are provided for the convenience of the college community and rendered with a service-orientated attitude by ensuring they are provided in a professional, timely, safe and efficient manner.

  • Process requests from SchoolDude work order system and your supervisor and perform work assignments as scheduled, ensuring prompt delivery of required equipment, furniture and materials to proper destination. Accurately record completion date, time and man-hours involved.

  • Load equipment furniture, materials and packages onto skids, pallets and heavy vehicles either manually or by the use of hand trucks or forklift for warehouse storage, campus deliveries and other designated campus facilities.

  • Uses proper strapping and places protective materials around load to secure during transportation.

  • Removes empty skids or pallets and stacks in designated areas. Clean up and properly disposes of scrap racing, cardboard, tape and strapping in containers or designated areas to maintain a neat and orderly warehouse environment.

  • Uses various minor tools such as hammer, drill and screwdriver as necessary to prepare furniture and equipment for transporting and for removal of strapping, to crates and to secure the load(s) during transport.

  • Working knowledge of sources of supply, market factors, products, and commodities being purchased. Ability to manage the transaction of purchasing, selling, and issuing products. Ability to promote products or services. May require the ability to develop advertising and promotional plans.

  • Work collaboratively with Finance Department assuring necessary documentation for the tracking and accountability of all fixed assets.

  • Collaborate with Inventory Specialist to complete Gov Deals transactions.

  • Participate in the proper disposal of surplus/obsolete supplies and equipment including working with auctioneer in the disposal thereof.

  • Demonstrate and meet expectations in performance attributes designated as critical: customer service, initiative, planning/organization, quality of work and timeliness of work.

  • Perform all duties as assigned and support any initiatives of the Custodial Department or the Maintenance Department as needed.

  • Sweep, dust, and mop. Always organize warehouse and work area for orderliness.

Difficult Challenges

  • Lifting 50-100 lbs occasionally, 25-50 lbs frequently or up to 10-20 lbs constantly.

Education Required

High School Diploma or GED certificate

Experience Required

  • 1-year experience in warehouse environment, shipping/distribution or moving of furniture/fixtures.

Experience Preferred

  • 1- 2 years of experience in moving, warehouse, manufacturing, inventory management, stocking and customer service.

KSA Required

  • Ability to maintain a log of service requests for tracking and monitoring completed and outstanding jobs.

  • Ability to operate various hand powered trucks, and minor tools.

  • Ability to adapt to changing policies and procedures in keeping with the college's initiatives and mission.

  • Knowledge of safety procedures (including OSHA) to ensure that safe working conditions is maintained as well as a high degree of attention needed to prevent injury to self and others.

  • Ability to work additional hours or alter work schedule to accommodate the timely completion of assigned job tasks.

  • Exhibits analytical and problem-solving ability applicable to job assignments.

  • Exhibits strong work ethics with the ability to perform assigned tasks with the appropriate level of direction and supervision.

  • Ability to be self-directed, exhibiting such qualities as initiative and resourcefulness in bringing tasks to a successful completion.

  • Move jobsite items using company provided box truck from one site to another

  • Assemble and place furniture as needed.

  • Good communication, organization, time management, and basic mathematical skills.

  • Dependable and reliable.

  • Inventory, equipment maintenance, data entry, and computer skills are required.

KSA Preferred

  • Must be able to lift at least 75 lbs and maintain the energy to move and pack throughout the day

  • Previous customer service experience is a plus, as is experience in moving, warehouse, manufacturing, inventory management, stocking, helper or general labor.

  • Must be able to lift heavy furniture repeatedly.

Department/Job Specific Requirements

  • Valid driver's license along with an acceptable driving record, and background report is required

Participation and successful completion of federal, state, or locally required training including but not limited to Bloodbourne Pathogens, HAZMAT, Emergency Action Plans, Forklift Operator Safety, Asbestos Awareness, Emergency Equipment (fire Ext.), First Aid, PPE, Reporting Practices, Anti-Harassment, Personal Information Protection Training.

The following (compliance) training is required and must be completed within the first 30 days of hire with annual refresher training thereafter:

  • Ethics

  • Safety/Shooter on Campus

  • Personal Information Protection Training (PIP)

  • Anti-Discrimination/Harassment & Title IX

  • Other training may be required as determined applicable.

Environmental Hazard(s): 15-30%

Lifting: Lift heavy objects regularly. =>75 lbs or above, using the proper lifting equipment adhering to safe and proper lifting techniques.
