Medical Assistant II NON-EXEMPT

DIRECTOR OF CLINICAL SERVICES PRIMARY CARE CLINIC

POSITION OBJECTIVE/SUMMARY:

The Medical Assistant II is required to perform all duties of the Medical Assistant and functions as a resource person for patients looking to enroll in a healthcare plan. The Medical Assistant II in the office setting is a specialty requiring a variety of skills, including but not limited to: Registration duties (front office), ICD10 coding, data collection for billing procedures, charge posting, maintains appointment schedules, provides guidance to referrals coordinator, provides appropriate patient instructions per physician orders, provides guidance for enrollment.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required

  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program/Certified Medical Assistant preferred

  • Current, valid CPR certification

  • Familiarity with Community Health Clinics (FQHC)

  • Minimum 2-4 years of experience as Medical Assistant, non-profit setting highly desirable

  • Knowledgeable of an electronic health record (EHR) system Valid California Driver's License and proof of personal liability auto insurance as required by California State Law.

DESCRIPTION:

The medical assistant II will be an EcW super user and must be able to execute day-to-day workflows as communicated and coached by the Clinic Manager and the Lead MA. It is expected that the majority of the MA lead daily work will be related to direct patient care.

Performs all duties of Medical Assistant plus:

  • Help maintain efficient levels of medical (i.e vaccines) and office supplies as directed by the lead MA.

  • Clearly communicate and monitor any new processes to the department/unit.

  • Helps with patient enrollment and verifying eligibility.

  • Does both back and front office.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Obtains, identifies and records vital signs, prevention data, medications, chief complaints and other pertinent information.

  • Observes, records and reports pertinent patient symptoms, reactions, condition changes, and information.

  • Immediately identifies and reports to clinic manager or provider all adverse observations, reactions, conditions, or emergency situations

  • Prepares room and instruments for use during exam or procedure.

  • Assists provider with wide variety of patient care procedures and tests.

  • Collects, labels, and processes specimens as required by provider and in accordance with policies and procedures.

  • Performs point-of-care laboratory tests as authorized by policy and delegated by supervisor

Maintains and promotes clean, safe, and well-equipped environment for patients, family members, and staff.

  • Complies with Kedren Community Care Clinic policies

  • Acts based on constructive performance evaluations- staff development

  • Maintains confidentiality when interacting with patients, families, personnel and the public

  • CPR every two years

  • Answers phone calls coming into the clinic.

  • Assist and supports clinic audits

  • Ability to communicate with EHR technical support to make recommendations on improvements or streamline processes regarding EHR.

  • Ability to execute daily job duties with an understanding of issues that need to be executed to the Clinic Manager.

  • First-line problem solving skills with the ability to listen, understand, and solve or escalate provider issues before they become more serious.

  • Ability to always demonstrate the highest level of performance and behavior standards.

  • Ability to be honest and straightforward, dealing with issues fairly and consistently.

  • Ability to be supportive and acknowledge individuality.

  • Ability to be a team player. Support and assist team members. Be available to help and learn from the team. Keep an open mind to feedback and earn the trust of staff and providers.

  • Ability to travel for off-site clinical patient care.

  • Team player, excellent verbal and communication skills, adaptable in different situations, possesses excellent client interaction skills, able to multi-task and work independently

  • Performs any other tasks and duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Medical Assistants may spend 80% of their professional day walking, standing, moving and manipulating equipment, as well as lifting and moving objects, equipment and supplies. It is reasonable to anticipate lifting 20-25 pounds in any given day. Lifting up to 40-50 pounds may occasionally be required, depending on the specific style or type of care provided.

  • In the performance of certain patient care tasks, the Medical Assistant may be expected to have sufficient manual dexterity in order to safely perform various skills and techniques. Tasks and expectations may vary by clinical site and medical practice.

  • Medical Assistants may also be expected to have a level of visual and auditory acuity sufficient to meet the needs of their job tasks.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk or hear.   • Essential duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and communicable diseases.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

EXPECTATIONS:

1.Excellent communication skills at a quality level necessary for taking patients' medical histories, understanding provider and supervisor's instructions, and accurately documenting patients' medical information within EHR. Ability to effectively communicate with patient population and staff while demonstrating a high degree of patient care.

2.Beginner to intermediate computing and phone skills.

3.Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends; demonstrates flexibility in regards to job duties and assignments.

4.Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a high-stress and fast-moving environment.

5.Culturally sensitive and demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with ethnically diverse populations.

6.Working knowledge of "Universal Precautions" and "Standard Precaution"

7.Possess a thorough understanding of the importance of confidentiality and non-disclosure according to the general standards set forth by HIPAA.

8.Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.

9.Demonstrates professional behavior at all times



  1. Observes department guidelines to conduct personal business during breaks and lunch hour.

11.Observes department guidelines to limit personal phone use and does not use the phone/computer for personal calls, internet search and email for personal use
